Academic Success Coordinator

The Department of Animal Sciences has the unique mission of serving Colorado’s large and diverse livestock industries. Research, teaching and extension outreach activities in the Department of Animal Sciences focus on developing industry leaders and improving profitable production of horses and food animals through the application of science and technology, resource management and food product enhancement, with emphasis on addressing societal issues concerning food safety, product quality and value, animal care and management, and environmental impacts of animal agriculture. Position SummaryThe Department of Animal Sciences is seeking an Academic Success Coordinator (ASC) to strengthen ongoing departmental efforts to provide quality advising, enhance undergraduate student success, and support the campus priority for a diverse and supportive learning environment. This is a 12-month, full time, regular, administrative professional position located in the Student Success Center within the Animal Sciences Department. The primary functions of this position are to: 1) assist new students with a successful transition to the university; 2) promote exploration of academic goals/opportunities to ensure selection of an appropriate major; 3) work individually with Animal Science and Equine Science majors to develop, implement, and monitor a plan of study leading to timely graduation and eventual attainment of career goals; 4) foster student engagement with faculty mentors and departmental programs and activities, and 5) participate in department and college initiatives related to student engagement and advising. As a member of the Student Success Team, the ASC will work closely with faculty coordinators for undergraduate programs, other advising staff (within the department and college), and the campus-wide ASC network. This position reports to the Department Head or their designee. Required Job QualificationsA completed bachelor’s degree in animal science, equine science, natural science, animal behavior, agriculture, student affairs, education, counseling or closely related field by start date.Demonstrated interest in and passion for supporting students in achieving their academic goals.Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.Proven ability to do detailed work, prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment.Demonstrated ability to work in a computerized environment using web-based software and data management systems.
