Agronomic Research Specialist – #01Q09
We are seeking a motivated Agronomic Research Specialist. This position will be located in Wichita, KS, reporting to our Operations Lead. Agronomic Research Specialists contribute in all phases of breeding programs and will have the opportunity to work in all operations related to field trials, seed preparation, field plot management, data collection, harvesting and trial plots for all major crops in this region including Soybeans, Corn, Wheat, and agricultural chemicals. Key Responsibilities:Interact with scientists and breeders on and off-site to support and advance the pipeline. Participate in planting operations, field/plot maintenance, pollination, data collection and harvest. Utilization of research equipment such as planters, combines and hand held computers for note taking. Participate in computer related activities to support data collection and QC. Perform safety inspections, and assist in providing safety training and guidance to field personnel. Supervision and training of temporary employees. Work closely with other research sites to keep program operating efficiently. Participate with team to successfully maintain Quality Standards and support the Quality Management System. Assist in projects and perform other duties as and when required. Overnight travel for training and other meetings are likely during the year.Qualifications:Required Skills/Experience:Bachelor???s degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, or a related field. Ability to work extended hours during the peak seasons. Capable of anticipating and solving problems. Ability to promote teamwork, encourage collaboration and innovation. Experience utilizing MS Word and MS Excel. Ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams. Demonstrated ability to balance and prioritize tasks. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral. Basic understanding of farm equipment maintenance. Desired Skills/Experience: Broad knowledge of crop production and farming practices. Broad knowledge of farm equipment operation and repair. Pesticide applicator license (or ability to obtain). Familiarity with breeding and testing methodologies. Knowledge of basic statistics and experimental design principles. Knowledge of basic computer programming. Familiarity with precision agriculture equipment. Familiarity with computer and mobile based applications used in the agricultural industry.
