Agronomic Research Specialist – #01QR5
We are seeking a motivated Agronomic Research Specialist. This position will be located in Huxley, IA, reporting to our Nursery Lead. The Agronomic Research Specialist will assist in overseeing daily operations associated with a comprehensive corn and soybean breeding program aimed at developing and identifying high yielding hybrids and varieties. The individual will have the opportunity to assist in all phases of a breeding program including seed packaging, planting, pollination, plot maintenance, data collection, and harvest of breeding nursery. Additional responsibilities include supervision and training of temporary employees, active participation in station safety and QMS programs, and interacting on a professional level with personnel at other breeding stations. Key Responsibilities: Assist in the coordination of day-to-day nursery seed production activities, including seed packaging, planting, note taking, plot maintenance, and harvesting Utilization of research equipment such as planters, combines, research seed processing equipment, and hand-held electronic devices. Provide support for precision agronomic strategies including GPS, GIS, soil sampling, and new equipment technology and its application into a breeding seed production program Assist in computer-related activities Provide support for day-to-day nursery activities such as pollinating, operation of threshing systems, seed counters and seed packaging Ship nursery and seed testing materials Perform safety inspections, and assist in providing safety training and guidance to field personnel. Manage contingent labor resources including hiring, termination and trainingParticipate with the team to successfully maintain the Quality Management Standards Assist in other projects and perform other duties as and when required Overnight travel through out the year is possible. Occasional 2-3 day periods of travel for training and other meetings are likely during the year.Qualifications:Required Skills/Experience:Bachelor's Degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Engineering, Management, Agricultural Sciences, Plant Breeding, or related field2-3 years of relevant experience in industry or academic researchAbility to execute protocols Ability to work extended hours and/or travel during the peak planting, pollinating and harvest seasons Experience utilizing MS Office Suite Ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams Demonstrated ability to balance and prioritize tasksDemonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally Ability to lift up to 40 lbs Desired Skills/Experience: Familiarity with breeding methodologiesTraining and experience in experimental design, seed production management, statistics and data interpretation Broad knowledge of crop production and farming practices Broad knowledge of farm equipment operation and repairDemonstrated experience taking initiative and delivering resultsTeam leadership and supervisory experiencePesticide applicator license or ability to obtain pesticide applicator license Bayer successfully completed the acquisition of Monsanto in June 2018, bringing together Monsanto???s leadership in seeds and plant traits with Bayer???s leadership in chemical and biological crop protection.
