Reporting to the General Counsel, Retail, this Assistant General Counsel position is responsible for assisting the Retail business to service its grower customers. That means working in a fast-paced, growing, challenging and satisfying environment and with a variety of knowledgeable partners. Nutrien requires an experienced Assistant General Counsel to be based at Retail headquarters and to work with branch locations across the U.S. The successful candidate must be able to hit the ground running and, in order to do so, will need to arrive at Nutrien with a well-developed set of skills and the ability to work independently and in collaboration with others. What you will do:Advise management on legal issues arising in relation to transactions, litigation and financing mattersAdvise members of the business on variety of business issues that arise quicklyAssist with regulatory, compliance, licensing and policy issuesAssist with drafting and negotiating contracts and other commercial documentsPartner with employees in product development, Supply Chain, Supplier Relations, Marketing and Digital to successfully drive the initiatives they are championingManage legal costs in connection with external legal servicesGive strategic legal advice to business partners and managementTravel within North America and potentially, occasionally, abroad as necessary for meetings and other workWhat you will bring:Be a member of an Association Bar in the U.S. with the requirements to become a member of the Colorado Bar AssociationMinimum 10-15 years of senior business level experience in the corporate counsel environment Broad legal background and significant knowledge with experience in transactional law. Broad legal background and significant knowledge with experience in transactional lawExperience in banking or financing law would be a strong plusBasic knowledge of one or more of the following areas would be a plus: litigation, intellectual property, environmental, real estate and employment lawAbility to effectively manage tight timelines and balance competing prioritiesBusiness, tax or financial acumen is attractiveBeing a highly effective, practical lawyer with a track record of value creation is desired.As important as the technical skills this individual brings to the table are their interpersonal competencies; specifically, the successful candidate must bring the following attributes:Strong leadership skills and management presence with an ability to interface across all levels of the organizationA strong work ethic and an ability to meet deadlines without sacrificing quality of serviceExcellent interpersonal and communication skills, including verbal and written communication and drafting skillsAbility to be a “hands-on” lawyer who is practical, pragmatic and customer-service oriented, with willingness and ability to learn Nutrien’s Retail business in order to be a key contributorDemonstrated business judgment and the ability to work both independently and as a team player with proven legal judgment and excellent strategic and analytical skillsAn outstanding relationship building capability and a collaborative working style – be a strong team player with the ability to work collaboratively with employees in different regions and with varying levels of seniority, offering timely and solution-focused practical advice and consultationProven ability to build and maintain ‘trusted advisor’ relationship with stakeholders including external counsel, customers and all levels of management at NutrienAre you a good match?
