Assistant Head Grower
Job Title: Head Grower UnderstudyObjective: Efficiently grow quality ornamental and edible plugs, liners and retail ready crops under the direction of the head grower with the goal of becoming the head grower over the next 10 years. Requirements:Minimum of 5 years experience growing crops in a greenhouse environmentDesire to become the head grower over the next 10 yearsWillingness to learn and adapt to the growing techniques and processes currently deployed at Sunbelt Greenhouses while also trialing and incorporating new ideas.Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word & Excel. Will eventually need to learn Priva to control the growing environment and Picas to manage the production process.Ability to obtain a Georgia Pesticide Applicator license This position will report to the Head Grower and the General Manager Schedule: General work week is Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM to 4 PM plus weekend rotations and evening spraying as necessary. Some holiday work will be required. Plants require more than banker hours but quality of life is important so we try to have a balance. Sunbelt is a year-round growing facility. Major Duties / TrainingInvolved with the prefinished plug and liner program plus the finished bedding plants, mums and poinsettias.Assist in coordinating and supervising production personnel Assist in training of watering personnel both young plants and finished production.Assist with the production of plugs from sowing, germination, fertigation, watering and chemical applications.Assist with greenhouses environmental duties. This will include temperatures, light levels and sanitation.Involved with daily soil and fertilizer testing.Chemical applications will include pesticide, P.G.R. s and fungicides in young plants as well as finished production.Pest identification using I.P.M. protocol.Participate in the production planning including variety selection, trialing, crop plans, etcAssist with crop organization and layout PERFORMANCE EVALUATION: Formal compensation evaluations will be conducted once a year.
