Assistant Plant Manager
CHS has an exciting opportunity in our Animal Nutrition division. We are looking for an Assistant Plant Manager to:Formulate liquid feed supplements, purchase ingredients, manage inventory, and ensure quality and HACCP/SFSF complianceAdminister the plant safety programs to ensure a safe, healthy and accident free work environmentAssist in coordinating the activities of the production staffYou will:Negotiate with ingredient suppliers and purchase all feed ingredients for business unit.Create and place purchase orders with vendors via phone, fax, e-mail, internet. Ensure accuracy of invoices for goods and services received; work with vendors to resolve any discrepancies.Communicate with dairy and beef nutritionists to develop and oversee liquid supplements to fit specific needs and requirements.Aid in liquid formulation and development.Serve as a hands-on team lead in a Feed Mill facility, performing mill operations and providing guidance to others as needed to provide efficient, safe, and reliable service to patrons.Oversee and manage inventories, both ingredients and finished products.Evaluate quality control sampling, testing and data recording performance.Maintain all product quality standard documentation including, product specifications, sampling and test procedures.Conduct safety & compliance training to educate employees on job safety, health hazards, and methods of reducing and/or eliminating workplace hazards. Facilitate monthly safety meetings, lead the local safety committee and document actions in the risk management system.Conduct periodic location inspections regarding housekeeping, equipment and machinery condition, environmental concerns, DOT records and all other safety related issues at plant, to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and CHS regulations.Maintain and periodically review the risk management system to product safety records and documentation required by the company and/or state and federal regulators.Facilitate relationships with local regulatory personnel and agencies, provide compliance information and respond to any concerns they may have.Lead efforts to continually improve processes and implement procedures that improve safety, environment, compliance and inventory management.Oversee daily plant production with emphasis on production efficiency, quality and safety standards.Conduct ongoing effective communication with suppliers, vendors, customers, peers and management.Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.Work extended hours as needed.Basic Qualifications: (required)Associate degree in dairy science, animal nutrition, safety, or a related field2 years of safety, production operations, and/or AgBusiness experienceAbility to lift 55 pounds and climb ladders, stairs, rail cars, and bins.Ability to work in dust and adverse weather conditions and temperaturesAbility to work extended hours as neededPreferred Qualifications: (desired)Previous liquid feed experienceHACCP and SFSF knowledgeApply for this job.
