Assistant Scientist or Scientist
DowDupont is searching for a highly-motivated individual to join our rapidly-growing Culture Development Department at the Assistant Scientist or Scientist level. As an important member of our multidisciplinary team, you will work closely with colleagues around the globe to develop best-in-class microbial products that drive food fermentations. In this dynamic position, you will isolate or evolve, and characterize beneficial Lactic Acid Bacteria, quickly master laboratory techniques (molecular genetics, microbiology, biochemistry) and state-of-the-art bioinformatic tools (comparative genomics, biostatistics) that are crucial to complete this research. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesFormulate hypotheses and controlled experiments with minimal direction to develop ground-breaking new technologies (molecular and bioinformatic) and creative, quick-to-market microbial products. Be ready to discover new knowledge germane to the genomics, physiology, and metabolism of Lactic Acid Bacteria and their predatory bacteriophages.Practice curiosity to learn a deep understanding of starter culture performance and the Nutrition and Health business. Share and meticulously document ideas, experimental observations, and results in electronic laboratory notebooks. Compare your results with those documented elsewhere; skillfully synthesize these analyses into cohesive technical reports and presentations that are accessible to diverse audiences.Act with a sense of urgency to meet project deadlines.Communicate openly and regularly with your Manager and other partners.Embrace our core values: Safety & Health, Environmental Stewardship, Highest Ethical Behavior, and Respect for People. Qualifications:Job QualificationsEducation commensurate with a PhD (Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Bioprocessing, Food Science, or related discipline) or an MS or BS with a minimum of 5 years of meaningful experience.Prior practical experience studying the molecular genetics, genomics or physiology of Gram-positive bacteria?especially Lactic Acid Bacteria?and their bacteriophages preferred.A basic knowledge of and experience using molecular biology (isolation and manipulation of nucleic acids) and bioinformatics or biostatistics is strongly desirable.Confirmed ability to design, manage, and perform complex projects to their successful completion.Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.Apply for this job.
