Position Purpose:As a new Bioindustrial Applications team member, the Associate Bioindustrial Applications Scientist will be responsible for performing chemical conversions,? applications, and analytical testing of novel bio-derived materials and their derivatives used in industrial applications. To contribute towards expanding the bioindustrial landscape, you will assist in ensuring the suitability of candidate chemicals for new and existing end use applications by executing experiments and monitoring the chemical and physical performance of the materials. This Associate Bioindustrial Applications Scientist will be a core part of a research and development team that is focused on growing Cargill?s business in targeted bioindustrial markets. As such, a strength in organization will be a benefit as this role has a primary focus on lab execution and the creation and archiving of data will be essential to contributing to a highly functional team. Additional duties for this role outside of the lab include managing the ordering of lab supplies for the applications team and working with procurement specialists to manage ordering, invoicing and payments. This will provide the opportunity to learn how to use SAP system and collaborate across the business group.Principal Accountabilities:30% Participate in product development, prototype generation, lab trials and applications testing for new and existing bio-derived materials that will be used in industrial markets/applications.? Will participate in new-to-the-world and routine experiments. Organize, record, and communicate results.30% Project team membership including supporting senior research scientists in the completion of research projects or activities (assist with laboratory and pilot experiments).?? Organize, record, communicate results within the research team as well as broader project teams.25% Manage, organize and coordinate processes for procurement of chemicals, materials, services and suppliesprocurement and invoicing for the applications team and projects within the strategic marketing and innovation portfolio.? Collaborate with various parties in the procurement system.? Work with the SAP system.? 10% Help ensure the efficient operation of the lab. Track material and chemical inventory assist with clean-up efforts and other duties as required. ?5% Support and comply with corporate and local safety and food safety policies and procedures.Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.Skills:
Required? Bachelor?s Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related science field ? At least 1 year of experience in a laboratory environment? Working experience of common chemical measurement and lab techniques ? Able and willing to have light physical activity with occasional medium-level activity when needed.? Able and willing to travel up to 15% of the time at multiple lab locations within the twin cities.Abilities / Success Factors? Ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment.? Ability to work independently? Demonstrated willingness to learn.? Strong attention to detail? Effective communication skillsPreferred? Completion of at least one semester of analytical chemistry with lab or equivalent experience? 2+ years? post graduate experience in a laboratory environment? Experience with lab techniques such as chromatography, ICP/AA, distillation, synthesis, separation, filtration etc.? Demonstrated problem solving skills in lab environment (i.e. adapting protocols, troubleshooting results).? Mechanical aptitude to operate and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.? Experience with SAP procurement systems
