We currently have an Associate Plant Pathology Scientist position available at our facility in Boise, ID.
Boise's mild climate, affordable housing, and vibrant downtown add up to a great place to live. SUMMARY Supports the plant pathology effort aimed at improving the agronomic performance of potato other crops through genetics and biotechnology.
Displays a sound understanding of plant pathology and exhibits technical excellence in plant pathology methods.
Works well in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to set up and carry out experiments.
Troubleshoots, summarizes, and reports results.
Optimizes existing methods and rapidly adapts new methods.
Involved in multiple projects simultaneously and has a good understanding of the theoretical basis of these and related projects. RESPONSIBILITIESParticipates in plant and pathogen propagation under aseptic and non-aseptic techniques, perform diseases testing.
Record, interpret and present experimental resultsManages in vitro plant and microbiological cultures (bacterial, fungal, oomycetes and viral), identifies and scores diseases on different plant material.
Has basic knowledge of molecular biology and plant transformationParticipates in the care of plants in research greenhouses and growth chambersAccomplishes short and long-term experiments successfully.
Demonstrates a high level of technical efficiency and excellence in a variety of methods (plant and pathogen propagation, disease tests). Carries out most experiments independently with minimal supervision.
Effectively analyzes and summarizes data.
Contributes to the optimization of existing methods and rapidly adapts/develops new methods.Writes progress reports and detailed standard operating procedures and protocols, presents results, and contributes to the publication of dataActs positively within a team to accomplish scientific objectives, using good communication and organization skills.
Adapts quickly and remains composed as objectives change. Performs routine lab functions following standard operating procedures and follows protocols regarding laboratory safety and security. Participates in the maintenance and cleaning of laboratory, growth rooms and greenhouse facilities.
