Associate Scientist – Cosmetic and Personal Care
Position Purpose & SummaryThe Cargill Beauty Associate Scientist position will work within the North America Shared Capabilities team of the Research and Development Job Family at Cargill. A primary goal of the position will be to drive added value by developing new personal care products using Cargill?s ingredients. The Cargill Beauty Associate Chemist is to support and assist the growing needs of the Beauty Go To Market (GTM) team by conducting hands-on work in the Beauty laboratory. Candidate should have the ability to manage multiple projects (under supervision) and to design, execute experiments and interpret results. The Position will report to CB Applications Manager. The position will provide opportunities to build a career in the Personal Care industry and gain exposure and develop expertise in the skin, hair and oral care formulation and development processes.Principal Accountabilities60%: Execute hands-on laboratory work by developing skin care, hair care and oral care products following good laboratory practices. Formulations can include variety of cosmetics and over the counter products (OTC) from concept/ideation to finished product based on project needs. Conduct studies and testing for understanding properties and interactions of raw materials. Interpret results of laboratory studies conducted. Maintain thorough and accurate documentation and reports. Set product specifications and write manufacturing procedures. Conduct stability testings and other evaluation techniques based studies for efficacy assessment of raw materials. Comply with Cargill rules on EHS (environment, health and safety) and safety protocols. Create IP to help Cargill Capture value from innovation.20%: Travel to customers and for trade shows as per Business needs. Develop and bring value by presenting technical information to R&D teams at customers. Conduct workshops to promote Cargill Beauty portfolio ingredients. 10%: Maintain and up-keep of the laboratory following Cargill processes. Maintain the raw materials library which will involve ordering raw materials, putting-in the chemical inventory system, maintaining paper-work and keeping tab on expiry dates. Initiate and maintain vendor relationship. Set-up procedures for operating instruments, set up testing methods on instruments, design test protocols and record results utilizing electronic lab notebooks (ELN) and formulation software. 10%: Participate and work for trade show related activities and exhibitions. Co-ordinate samples and testing requirements with external labs. Remain up to date and current on trends in the retail market and trends on formulations materials, ingredients. Required Qualifications: ? Bachelor in Chemistry, Biochemistry or science/technology field ? 1 year hands-on laboratory bench experience ? Experience of the basic chemical laboratory instrumentation ? Experience in the use of MS Office products such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint. ? Experience using cosmetic raw materials
? Personal care product development and formulation experience in skin, hair and oral care categories Success Factors: ? Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical documents ? Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills. ? Ability to prioritize multiple tasks to meet project deadlines ? Team player, experience in working in diverse teams.
Preferred Qualifications: ? Experience in writing SOP?s/protocols/reports/procedures ? Experience in creating ingredient lists according to FDA and INCI guidelines ? General working knowledge of regulation of personal care products
