Automation Engineer – #01RS3
We are seeking a motivated Automation Engineer. This position will be located in St. Louis, MO (Chesterfield) and reporting to the Discovery and Special Projects Lead. The farm of the future demands seeds, traits, and crop protection products that enable farmers to produce a lot more food with fewer inputs while safeguarding the environment. We design the machines that will plant, harvest, and manage thousands of research fields while measuring the details of every plant and its environment, helping our scientists create ever better products. From tiny sensors to full scale equipment, the Automation Engineer works on a team with multidisciplinary technologists that execute the design work for the platform, along with cultivating the collaborations with our implementation team, enterprise software and data teams, data science teams, field users, vendors, and prototyping labs. The Field Systems team is responsible for design and continuous innovation in our enterprise platforms for delivery of phenotyping, yield, planting, and growing season data. This work also includes design and integration of sensors, positioning solutions and more that enable field, plot, and even plant level insights for all of our global field R&D teams. Design work in our platform teams can include gathering requirements and learning from field users, conducting industry research, building and evaluating prototypes, implementing test plans for both current systems and new designs, delivering production ready prints or code, and more. Our team is mostly based out of our brand-new facility in Chesterfield, MO. Key Responsibilities:Research existing technologies and propose new approaches that add value to Breeding processesDevelop and implement test protocols to validate key system performance metricsWork closely with other engineering and science partners throughout project lifecyclesIdentify and form partnerships within Technology and other business unitsTrain matrix team members, support staff, and stakeholders in technology deploymentEnsure data pathway is in place for data collection, evaluation, analysis, and visualizationConstruct prototypes; evaluate and document their performance; coordinate with relevant field platform teams and implementation leads to transition technology to product stageQualifications: Required Skills:Minimum of a Bachelor???s Degree in Engineering: Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or a related technical fieldMinimum of at least 5 years of relevant engineering experienceExperience with automation systemsAbility to manage and prioritize multiple projects through to completionAbility to work both independently and collaborate effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team including Automation Engineering and partner organizations (internal and external to Monsanto)Strong critical thinking and ability to solve complex problemsExperience designing, executing, and troubleshooting experimentsStrong verbal and written communication skills Desired Skills: Experience with process workflow development and transition to production environmentExperience with computer aided design software, SolidWorks preferredExperience with data analysis and visualization through Spotfire, R programming, or other visualization toolsExperience with coding Python, C#, PLC programmingMaster's degree in Engineering or related technical fieldBayer successfully completed the acquisition of Monsanto in June 2018, bringing together Monsanto???s leadership in seeds and plant traits with Bayer???s leadership in chemical and biological crop protection.
