Automation Engineer Co-op – #01RTE
Over the last decade, Monsanto???s Automation Engineering team has developed and deployed many game-changing automated systems that have transformed plant breeding research and development. As these systems and processes evolve, we are constantly looking for continuous improvement opportunities to improve the reliability and effectiveness of our machines. We are looking for an engineering student who is passionate about automation and excited to jump in, learn fast, and make a difference. With a focus on support and improvement, the co-op will work to identify impediments to system efficacy and develop strategies to ensure the sustainability of the automated systems in the future. This six-month Fall Co-op will collaborate closely with team members and partners to analyze performance data from past seasons, propose (and implement) reliability and maintenance improvements, and find opportunities for lifecycle cost efficiencies. This assignment will take place from June through December of 2019. Responsibilities:On a team with engineers and technicians, jump in and ???get your hands dirty??? working on the build, start-up, troubleshooting, repair, and testing of custom-designed automated systems.Evaluate current designs and identify, develop, implement, and test modifications for reliability and maintenance improvements Analyze equipment trends, historical data, and field data to recommend and justify improvements to obtain lowest life cycle cost on equipment. Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and develop cost-effective equipment/systems-corrective actions Develop and implement equipment asset plans using Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), FMEA, and other standard reliability techniques. Assist in the identification and set-up of spare parts and maintenance plans. Maintain awareness of potential hazards and comply with safety rules and regulations while working in a fast-paced environment with automation.Qualifications:Required Skills/Experience:Pursuing B.S. or M.S. engineering degree from an ABET accredited institution.Strong computer skills, especially related to design and data analysis.Effective oral and written communications skills. Ability to interact with team members at all levels in a professional manner, contribute ideas, and seek resolution to issues that may arise.Demonstrated problem solving, planning, and time management skills.Capability to learn quickly and a willingness to ask questions.Willing to work ???hands-on??? with machinery.Desired Skills/Experience:Experience or familiarity with controls and automation.Proficiency in the creation of technical documentation.Experience or familiarity with reliability and maintenance concepts.Apply for this job.
