Automation Project Engineer

This role brings value to the organization by working with R&D partners to understand needs and leverage Automation work products and services to meet those needs. The incumbent must be a credible partner skilled at design, development, integration, deployment, and support of both commercial and internally-developed solutions across R&D. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in designing, building, and deploying systems to meet these and other similar customer demands ranging from integration of lab process components to the design/build of custom automated field equipment. The qualified candidate would work in close partnership with members of our scientific and engineering community, in a team environment, to deliver business impactful engineered solutions. The qualified candidate would possess a strong ability to think out of the box, design and deliver novel engineering solutions. The individual chosen for this role will be expected to demonstrate technical expertise and leadership in the execution of the following key objectives: Identify critical needs, technical requirements, and implement new or existing solutions that measurably improve productivity, quality, and safety of research activities.Provide subject matter expertise in reengineering efforts, identifying existing processes or operations that may benefit from a defined level of automation.Design parts and systems utilizing skills in mechanical, electrical, controls, software as applicable.Develop and assemble proof of concept and prototype devices/instruments within a hands-on-setting utilizing machine shop tools and equipment.Contribute to the exploration, development, capture, and adoption of new, cutting edge research technology. Maintain awareness of third-party (vendor or university) capabilities aligned with research needs; when appropriate, develop and manage cooperative projects and solution integration.Successfully transfer technology and operations to host department(s), providing scientific personnel with the necessary documentation and training to maximize the productivity of the automation systems. Participate on cross-functional projects to provide automation expertise. Design, develop, and test data handling and automation control systems in collaboration with functional partners.In addition to the technical skills required, our automation engineers must be self-motivated, have demonstrated personal initiative, have excellent interpersonal and organization skills, and have proven the ability to work in a team environment within a large, diverse organization. Qualifications:Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, agricultural or other similar engineering disciplines with a minimum of 3 years of industry related experienceProven experience in the design, build, and deployment of automated systems in an R&D environmentGood interpersonal effectiveness skills and a team playerAbility to prioritize and work independently with minimal supervision A minimum requirement for this U.S. – based position is the ability to work legally in the United States on a permanent basis (must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident or qualifying Asylee / Refugee).
