If you are interested in a position at Simplot, please consider applying today!The Microbiology Technician ensures proper collection, microbiological testing, and reporting of all samples taken in order to detect deviations from good manufacturing practices; conformance to company and customer criteria; and detection of contaminants. The Microbiology Technician works with quality assurance and production in communicating the information generated within the laboratory. RESPONSIBILITIES * Ensures there is no injury to self or others by following safe work practices (including Standard Operating Procedures) and policies.* Food Safety is everyone's responsibility.* Attend and participate in all training activities for the position. Ensure the acquired skills and knowledge are applied.* Ensures sanitation of equipment and housekeeping of the entire facility.* Ensures self-compliance with Company policies, Standard Operating Procedures, and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.* Must be a team player and help to meet operational goals.* Conducts oneself in a professional manner and ensures that personal appearance meets the standards necessary to perform the job functions while representing the Company.* Performs all such other duties as may be reasonably assigned by Manager.* Ensures the microbial and chemical analysis of product, water and swabs as outlined in the Food Group and Plant Quality Assurance procedures.* Understands and complies with finished product specifications.* Ensures accurate recording and reporting of microbiological records from each production day by utilizing the MMS program.* Ensures the maintenance of the laboratory quality control program by performing quality control checks, and accurately recording results.* Responsible for correct preparation of media and chemicals as required for testing.* Reports microbial deviations to the appropriate personnel.* Assists in the training and evaluating of new technicians, as required.* Assists in maintaining laboratory supplies inventories necessary for the proper functioning of the laboratory.* Demonstrates understanding of basic concepts of microbiology and chemistry; including knowledge of aseptic techniques and awareness of environmental and cross contamination.* Adheres to all recommended chemical and biohazard safety practices.* Maintains a neat and clean working area.* Demonstrates working knowledge and proficiency in the operation of all laboratory equipment and performs basic user maintenance.* Demonstrates computer skills necessary to enter data, and communicate using e-mail, word processing and spreadsheet software.* Demonstrates understanding of mathematical concepts used in microbiology and chemistry necessary to calculate averages, work with dilutions, prepare chemical solutions, and report results using exponential powers. Applicants must be available to work any shift (7am-7 pm or 7pm-7am). Pre-employment drug testing and background checks are required. Must have good communication, math and computer skills. Employees work a 2-week rotation, working Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday (4 shifts) on Week 1 and Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday (3 shifts) on Week 2. Employees will be assigned to either 7AM to 7PM or 7PM to 7AM shifts. The monthly schedule does not include rotating from nights to days. Employees enjoy having a 3-day weekend every other week.
