We are looking for a Geospatial Big Data Engineer who will be involvedin the design of big data solutions that leverage open source and cloud-basedsolutions within the Location360 enterprise initiative and will work withmultiple teams across the organization (i.e. cloud analytics, data architects,business groups). You will participate in the building of large-scale dataprocessing systems, be an expert in data warehousing solutions and can workwith the latest (NoSQL) database technologies. As a Geospatial Big Data Engineer, you will embrace thechallenge of dealing with petabyte or even exabytes of data daily. You willalso understand how to apply technologies to solve big data problems and todevelop innovative big data solutions. You will generally work on implementingcomplex big data projects with a focus on collecting, parsing, managing,analyzing and visualizing large sets of data to turn information into insightsusing multiple platforms. As a Geospatial Big Data Engineer you should be ableto develop prototypes and proof of concepts for the selected solutions. Thisrole will drive the engineering and building of geospatial data assets tosupport Monsanto???s Field Platform and R&D product pipeline by working inprojects such as PPP, ASP3 and Climate???s research farms data curationinitiative. Keyresponsibilities include:- Understand and incorporate current and new environmentaldata sets- Proactively integrate environmental data into fieldmanagement systems – Stay abreast of public domain data sets that are relevantto Monsanto???s biotechnology pipeline. – Partner within Monsanto data manager communities to bringneeded data sets into GIS and Big Data analytical environments- Lead the advancement in Monsanto???s understanding of environmentalinfluences on field performance and risk factorsQualifications:Minimum Requirements:- Bachelor???s degree in Computer Science or related discipline required.- +2 year???s experienceworking with Hadoop based technologies such as MapReduce, Hive MongoDB, Cassandraor other NoSQL/ Big Data platform- +2 year???s experienceworking with Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) such as ESRI Desktop, OracleSpatial, or GeoServer.- +3 year???s experienceworking with Java, Scala, Python, or similar development language.- Extensive knowledge indifferent programming or scripting languages like Java, Linux, C++, PHP, Ruby, Pythonand/or R.- Experience working withraster and vector data sets applying GDAL- Experience developingREST style and OGC APIs that serve up geospatial data leveraging GeoServer – Demonstrated strong SQLskills- Demonstrated strong Unixscripting skills- Demonstrated experienceutilizing REST, SOAP, or other data service methodologies- Demonstrated experienceadapting to new technologiesDesirablequalifications:- Demonstrated knowledgeof agriculture and/or agriculture oriented businesses- Experience implementingcomplex big data projects with a focus on collecting, parsing, managing,analyzing and visualizing large sets of data to turn information into insightsusing multiple platforms.- Capable to decide on theneeded hardware and software design needs and act according to the decisions.The big data engineer should be able to develop prototypes and proof ofconcepts for the selected solutions.- Experience withobject-oriented design, coding and testing patterns as well as experience inengineering (commercial or open source) software platforms and large-scale datainfrastructures should be present.- Experience creatingcloud computing solutions and web applications leveraging public and privateAPI???sApply for this job.
