Bilingual Animal Caretaker Trainer

In this position, the Bilingual Animal Caretaker Trainer will assist production supervisors in the training and implementation of technical pork production skills and improve the performace of our production system. Additionally, the trainer will assist in the development of on-farm processes, procedures and protocols, while providing supplemental training to employees and/or contractors in the aforementioned skills. The selected candidate will serve as a training resouce throughout the entire state of Iowa across all geographies of Iowa Select Farms' so production areas and may be called upon occasionally to train wean-to-finish animal caretakers. Other key responsibilities may include, but will not be limited to: Ensure that all swine in the Iowa Select Farms production system are raised and handled following the guidelines set forth in 1) Iowa Select Farms Production SOP s, 2) Iowa Select Farms Animal Welfare Statement, and 3) SelectCare. Coordinate and facilitiate proper animal care training with new and existing caretakers.Assist supervisors with identifying areas of opportunity to improve our sow farm production processes and procedures on a system and individual site basis.Assist with trouble-shooting system or individual site opportunities and implement processes and procedures to improve our system performance,Provide caretaker training including, but not limited to the areas of:Daily pig care and observations; production SOPs; timely identification & treatment; timely and proper euthanasia; animal handling; biosecurity; and record keeping.Assist in development and implementation of training plan for new and/or existing caretakersDevelop tracking/documentation system for completed trainingsDevelop training materials as neededAdhere to ISF Animal Wellbeing Policy at all times and collaborate with Production Well-being team and supervisors if incident occurs.Adhere to ISF bio-security policyAdhere to ISF safety policies and procedures and wear appropriate safety equipment (PPE) for appropriate tasks and work in a safe manner.Attend team meetings and give updates that assist in achieving departmental goals.Complete a weekly summary of conducted trainings/objectives and electronically submit to Director of Production Well-Being and Senior Sow Supervisors.Understand and demonstrate approved animal welfare procedures and bio-security at all times.Demeanor should be positive and professional at all times.Attendance is critical. Bilingual: Selected candidate must read, write and speak fluent Spanish. Education/ Experience: At least 5 years of prior work experience in swine production. Qualifications: Candidate must have a valid driver s license and the ability to travel to production sites. They must be able to travel for meetings and appointments. Candidate must be available for weekend and evening work when necessary. Minimum Qualifications:Strong technical skills in the area of sow production. Demonstrated ability to improve performance in sow systems through the development and implementation of growing pig technical skills.This position requires the trainer to work closely with managers, supervisors, production staff and other company employees/contractors, so teamwork and effective communication skills are very important. This person should possess the ability to articulate well and communicate issues to a variety of audiences. This person must be a detail oriented, self-starter and be able to schedule tasks and supervise people. Direct contact with pigs will occur, so good stockmanship and bio-security practices must be understood and practiced at all times. Computer literacy is important with competencies in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, Access and Internet Explorer. The employee must be able to, with or without accommodation, work in all facilities within the requirements of this job description. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 40 pounds and to climb over gates up to 48 inches in height as well as pushing, pulling, bending and kneeling. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk and stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, controls, or animals. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and talk or hear.
