This often enables us to provide our customers with a more sustainable, cost effective and tailored solution over fossil-based alternatives.??The Industrial Applications Principal Scientist – Homecare position is responsible for leading efforts to develop and understand use of novel biomaterials and their derivatives in industrial applications, specifically homecare (i.e. cleaners, laundry, wipes etc.) and ensuring their suitability for target uses.? This will involve leading efforts to evaluate efficacy, stability, performance, cost in use and value proposition of the materials.? The position provides chemistry knowledge and chemical transformation expertise to accomplish these objectives.? Develops solutions to complex problems that require regular use of ingenuity and creativity.? The incumbent will independently develop bio-based prototypes and perform applications testing relative to chemical and physical performance.? Additionally, they will work with R&D, marketing, commercial and engineering teams to assess external opportunities, drive development of new materials, enhancement of current materials (i.e. via bio-conversion, chemical modification, formulation etc.) and assess external business opportunities for the targeted applications/markets.? This position is a core part of a cross functional team that is responsible for growing Cargill?s business in the home care market.Principal Accountabilities50% Lead effort to evaluate current and developmental bio-derived materials for applicability and suitability for target cleaning markets and customers.? Participate in development of novel bio-materials to meet needs of target applications (i.e. cleaning, laundry etc.).? ?Oversee and conduct laboratory work including material transformations, characterization, physical measurements and applications testing as needed to accomplish this.? Develop prototypes that meet design objectives and customer needs.?15% Work with and provide guidance to various internal functions (commercial, TS, operations, IAM, R&D) and customers on the technical use and development of biomaterials and derivatives.? ?Guide commercial team to assess potential customer value.? Work with internal teams to identify cost effective, commercially interesting enhancements and derivatives of current products as well as development of novel materials.? Identify, create and capture intellectual property as appropriate.?10% Participate in strategy development and assessment of new business opportunities.? This includes such activities as technology scouting, working with Universities and contract research organizations (CROs), trade group participation and working with prospective external partners.? Report out may include reports, informal summaries, meetings etc.10%? Prepare reports and assessments regarding suitability, economics, comparative analyses etc. of prospective materials for customers and internal stakeholders (i.e. R&D, commercial, engineering).? ?Present and publish to the external environment (i.e. customers, conferences) as business needs dictate.?10% Other duties as assigned.?5%?
