Chief Operating Officer (COO)
POSITION PURPOSEAs a member of the Association’s Executive Team, the Chief Operations Officer (COO) will direct and lead the Administrative Operations, Monetary Operations, Loan Servicing, Collateral Risk, Human Resources and Information Technology teams. The COO will provide significant leadership to a diverse group of people across multiple functional teams, provide support and guidance, and direct and coordinate the activities of the organization in accordance with policies, goals, and objectives established to guide the Association’s mission. RESPONSIBILITIESExecutive Team Leadership – As a member of the Executive Team, will engage with the Board and other executives in the development of Association strategies and business objectives. Provide an independent leadership perspective and provide functional information and reports as needed. Strategic Leadership – Lead the development of business strategies for Administrative Operations, Monetary Operations, Loan Servicing, Collateral Risk, Human Resources and Information Technology teams. Monitor and measure performance against the strategies, identify and address barriers as needed. Demonstrate initiative to anticipate, plan, organize, inspire and lead Association opportunities. Leadership and Management – Select, develop, motivate and empower employees. Communicate business expectations and goals to teams and is responsible for team results. Performance Monitoring – Develop and implement metrics, and monitor progress against performance objectives for all functional areas of responsibility. Review and approve new or revised policies and processes. Measure impact of process changes. Select outside vendors to improve efficiency and/or effectiveness. Continuous Process Improvement – Lead continuous process improvement (CPI) strategies and efforts for the areas of responsibility and contribute to the Association CPI initiatives. Align risk process appetite and promote CPI based on Lean Principals. Loan Operations/ Servicing – Executive leadership and execution of the Association’s operational services and loan servicing teams. Accountable for increasing functional and operational effectiveness and efficiency while enhancing the customer experience. Human Resources –Approve and monitor human resources strategies and plans related to talent management, diversity and inclusion, performance standards, objectives and corrective actions. Ensure regulatory compliance. Information Technology Leadership – Ensure alignment of the Association’s technology function to the business strategy, instituting strong leadership invested in all aspects of technology management. Engage with AgVantis Technology on identification, approval and implementation of technology based solutions. Discuss, understand, approve and prioritize technology projects. Manage the Association’s security administrators, ensuring IT and security processes are functioning effectively and in compliance with policies, procedures and regulations. Collateral Risk – Oversee appraisal functions including procedures and policy. Ensure collateral assessments are in compliance with Association and regulatory guidance. Support continuous process improvements emphasizing process and credit risk alignment. Other duties as required. QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICSStrong commitment and adherence to personal values that align with the Farm Credit of New Mexico culture and code of ethics.Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Agricultural Economics or related field.Advanced education preferred or certificate from a graduate School of Banking preferred.10 years minimum of progressive experience, preferably within the Farm Credit System or other financial or banking field.Must have Loan Operations/Loan Servicing/Appraisal experience and 7 years of supervisory experience. Or, in lieu of the foregoing, must have an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.Experience managing other Association support functions such as IT, Legal, HR, Finance, etc. preferred.Exceptional communication skills.Superior leadership, team building and talent development skills.Strong analysis, judgment and strategic thinking.Advanced knowledge and demonstrated experience in ag-lending, policy, scope and eligibility requirements.Thorough understanding of the laws and regulations governing financial institutions.
