We currently have a position available at our BUSINESS facility in Othello Plant – Othello, WA. Located in Washington's beautiful Columbia Basin, Othello is surrounded by scenic parks and wildlife. SUMMARYSummary:This position will work in the Cold Room and Day Room area, operating a fork lift, performing all bulk handling duties, and printing tickets through the use of the inventory control system to ensure that product quality meets customer expectations.NATURE AND SCOPE: The Cold Room Laborer is a member of the packaging team which consists of Frozen Inspectors, Cold Room Laborers, Palletizers, Palletizing Attendants, Production Lift Truck Operators, Packaging Operators, Packaging Area Coordinators and Packaging Mechanics. The individual in this position is accountable to their assigned Packaging Supervisor and Shift Manager.The Othello facility is one of seven plants (Moses Lake, WA; Nampa, ID; Aberdeen, ID; Caldwell, ID; Portage la Prairie, Manitoba; and Grand Forks, ND) within the processed potato division of the Food Group Division of the J.R. Simplot Company that produces food service french fries, granulated dehydrated mashed potatoes, shredded and southern style hash browns, and specialty products.The Cold Room Laborer, with direction from a Packaging Area Coordinator, will work as a team member with other area personnel to support shift goals in the packaging of finished product. Task include, but are not limited to: operating a fork lift to handle all bulk product and materials related to work area; scanning, creating or reworking bulk tickets; cleaning food contact surfaces, floors, framework and the environment of the assigned work area; fully understanding the purpose and operation of the Cold and Day Room Areas and making decisions based on sound judgment as a situation may dictate.The individual in this position will accomplish these tasks by utilizing a team concept through working with other area personnel members and following directions and instructions from Area Coordinators, Packaging Supervisor, Shift Manager or other members of management. This position, along with all packaging team members, will support shift goals in the packaging of product, which includes meeting quality standards, meeting required packaging volumes and maintaining the packaging area. It is imperative that an individual in this position conduct him/herself in a manner that ensures alertness and constant awareness of team members' safety during the operation of equipment and at all other times. Positive work relationships and written and verbal communications are key for success of the individual holding this position.Overtime requirements in this position are common and may be required to meet operational goals. RESPONSIBILITIESResponsibilities:Responsibility 1. Must be able to complete training on the safe operation of the fork lift and successfully pass and maintain the certification test requirements. This training and certification is a requirement in accordance with both WAC 296-307-52003 and WAC 296-307-52029.Responsibility 2. Ensures proper handling of bulk product including dumping (blending) and filling totes, and ensures preparation of totes to be dumped (blended) or filled.Responsibility 3. Ensures that the Cold Room and Day Room are cleaned and stocked with the proper supplies in a safe, timely and skillful manner in order to meet operational standards.Responsibility 4. Ensures safe and proper operation of the tote dump.Responsibility 5. Assists with changing grader screens as needed.Responsibility 6. Ensures proper inspection of Lift Truck.Responsibility 7. Ensures proper ticketing and rework of tickets in a timely mannerResponsibility 8. Ensures that chemicals are handled and used safely and efficiently.Responsibility 9. Performs all functions of the stripping duties as needed.Responsibility 10. Performs all functions of assigned hand pack duties.Responsibility 11. Ensures that cleanup duties are performed in a food safe manner which meets Company standards.Responsibility 12. Ensures knowledge of equipment and able to turn equipment on and off while employing equipment lockout/tagout procedures as needed.Responsibility 13. Ensures that attendance and participation in training activities are appropriate for the position, and the acquired skills and knowledge are applied.Responsibility 14. Ensures there is no injury to self or others by following safe work practices, procedures (including Standard Operating Procedures), and policies.Responsibility 15. Ensures self-compliance with Company policies, Standard Operating Procedures, and the Union Labor Agreement.Responsibility 16. Ensures that the interaction with team members and other support groups is conducted in a participative management style conducive with operational goals.Responsibility 17. Conducts oneself in a professional manner by ensuring confidentiality regarding sensitive issues and ensuring that appearance meets the standards necessary to perform the job function while representing the company.Responsibility 18. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs in a safe and proper manner.9. Must be able to use up to 50 pounds of push/pull force needed to push/pull barrels weighing up to 450 lbs using a rolling device10. Must be able to maneuver in close quarters and climb stairs and ladders.11. Must be able to stand on concrete floors for long periods of time.12. Must be able to work in extreme environments: hot or cold temperatures and wet and slick floors.13. Must be able to work with and around hazardous chemicals wearing appropriate PPE, includes but no limited to, full wetsuit, boots, chemical gloves and face shield or goggles.Combination of education, training and/or experience will be considered for this position.Hourly Pay:
