POSITION DESCRIPTION:Manage, supervise, and train production staff in mill, elevators, packaging, finished product and feed load out. Adjust and maintain process equipment in accordance with ADM Milling standards. Hire, train and develop process staff.
Optimize plant productivity and yields, moistures, capacity and product quality. Develop and manage capital improvement projects. Maintain records in accordance with established ADM policies and procedures. Establish and maintain appropriate maintenance schedules. The Commercial/Operations Manager position also is responsible for
the purchase of grain, sales and shipment scheduling of milo feed, providing excellent customer service to customers, and oversight of administrative functions. The Dodge City Plant is a 5,000 cwt/day milo mill with approximately twenty-five union employees and a production/clerical support staff of six.
The plant produces acid modified starch and food grade sorghum flour, the Plant Manager is directly responsible to the Regional Operations Manager. PRODUCTION RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage Elevator, Production, Storage, Warehouse, Packaging and Bulk Load out Departments.Provide technical knowledge for processes and equipment to obtain optimum performance.Utilize production personnel and equipment in a safe & efficient manner to obtain maximum capacity and performance with optimum yields and quality product.Plan, initiate and put into operation, capital improvement programs within the plant.Drive development of operational S.O.P.s for production process. HEALTH & SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:Facilitate and ensure adherence to safety laws, regulations, rules and sound practices.Work with location management on the continued development and implementation of Health & Safety programs, policies and procedures.Coordinate & participate in audits, prioritizing and tracking completion of findings.Ensure that unsafe behavior and conditions are corrected.Incident Investigation (root cause analyzes), incident trends and related preventative measures.Maintain the necessary Health & Safety records and documentation.Set the example for safety. Perform Safety Audits.Support the Values Based Safety Process.
SANITATION/FOOD SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:Communicate food safety/sanitation/quality programs to plant supervisors and hourly employees and ensure compliance with these ADM standards.Prepare the facility for, and participate in, regulatory/third party/customer/company audits.Maintain the plant sanitation at levels that ensure we are inspection ready at all times. COMMERCIAL RESPONSIBILITIESEconomical purchase of grain sorghum from grain dealers and local sorghum growers.Coordination of specialty sorghum growing program for food productsSales and shipment scheduling of milo feed to livestock operationsOversight of customer service functionsOversight of administrative functions including payroll, accounts payables, grain settlement, and invoicing
REQUIREMENTS:Ideal candidate should have a degree in a related field such as Engineering, Milling Science &/or 5+ years of hands-on production management experience.
