About this Job:In
this role, you will help drive the transformation of environmental, crop
performance, and genetics data into knowledge for the design, development and
placement of crop solutions. As a Crop
Model Data Manager, you will develop crop databases and apply data analytics
approaches to enable decision support and product development across the Seeds
pipeline. You will work in close partnerships with experts in breeding and
commercial teams, computational biologists, and external partners to deliver
innovative modeling solutions in alignment with key business priorities.
Essential Duties &
Responsibilities:
Develop and manage crop databases
including environmental (abiotic
biotic), crop management and crop
performance parameters for multi-crops and at field, market, territory and
region levelsProvide scientific leadership and
technical knowledge for various environmental data and characterization
tasksApply data management and analysis
techniques, Geospatial Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS)
for analysis and understanding of environmental data Provide technical and project
leadership support in data management for environmental characterization
applications across Syngenta with a special focus on Seeds Development and
Digital Agronomy in North AmericaWork closely with regional/global
crop teams, other functional teams, and external partners to develop,
enhance, and apply database and mathematical methodologies in
environmental and biological sciences tailored for Syngenta product
development supportParticipate in and interact with
the global Environmental Characterization teamSkills:
Ph.D. in Data Science, Environmental
Sciences or a related field, preferably with a focus on biological
problems.High level expertise in data management
and analysis including database design and query definition, Geospatial
Information System/Remote Sensing including geostatistical and spatial
analyses, data mining and visualization.At least five
years relevant industry experience combining and applying data science,
environmental sciences, modeling, and agronomy for product development.Experience in data
management related to agriculture required.Experience in
environmental data management and analysis and statistical methods used in
environmental sciences and crop modeling highly preferred.Experience working
effectively in multi-disciplinary teams.Travel Requirements
20%Additional Knowledge,
Skills, Traits & Abilities:
Ability to combine skills in data
management, data analysis and biological sciences.Establish effective partnerships
with experimental and computational biologists working in breeding and commercial
teams.Work productively in a team /
matrix environment with geographically dispersed stakeholders.Knowledge
and/or experience in environmental and crop data collection.Knowledge
and/or experience in environmental, plant, crop, and cropping system
modeling, environmental physics, and crop physiology.Proficiency in GIS software,
especially geostatistical analysis, and statistical programming software
packages e.g., R, Python.Ability
to adapt and/or develop technical skills in disciplines beyond areas of
expertise and manage multiple projects and priorities. Demonstrated ability to communicate
and partner effectively with crop teams breeders, PSLs, etc..Excellent written and verbal
communication skills for both scientific and non-scientific audiences. Syngenta
