Director Microbiological Immunity Research and Tech Support
Position Purpose & SummaryThe Director, Microbiological Immunity Research & Technical Support is responsible for designing and conducting immunity and health related research as impacted by microbial communities with a focus on the microbiome and metabolomics. The position also requires management of funded projects and dissemination and publication of research findings in the area of discipline for the company. He/she is also responsible for transferring appropriate and effective technical information to Diamond V Customers, Salespersons, Distributors, Universities, and Industry Worldwide.
Principal Accountabilities70% Research Component: Research Support — Responsible for coordinating health and immunity research relative to the microbiome and metabolomics and supporting product innovation and technologies in the area of discipline.?Responsible for maintaining solid understanding of current IP, related research and competitive product offerings within area of discipline to enhance time-to-market of new Diamond V products/technologyProvides input for company microbiome and metabolomics research direction in area of disciplineCoordinates controlled studies and field research and their impact on animal health and immunitySupports product innovation and technologies in area of disciplineReviews protocols and reports results for International DVRP projectsProvides expertise in the areas of experimental design and statistical analysis? 30% Technical Service Component: Technical Service — Responsible for the development?of technical information for Sales &?Marketing materials and technology transfer to the industry
?Develops and presents effective technical presentations to customers, universities, and industry groups on product performance and applications, animal production management, and appropriate topics relating to the animal production industryResponds to customer requests for product and animal production management informationPrepare and review research and technical articles for internal Company useAssists in the development and editing of technical information for Sales & Marketing?materials Supports International Business Units in the selling process through technical presentations, customer visits, or other contacts as appropriateWrites technical articles for publication in trade magazines Provides technical input and?execution assistance to Company team managed projectsRepresents the Company in industry organizations in collaboration with other technical staff and according to company strategy Develops and maintains professional contacts at universities and industry tradeshowsMaintains/Improves technical proficiency by attending appropriate scientific and industry meetings?Skills:
Required QualificationsPh.D. in Microbiology, Animal Physiology or related fieldMinimum 10 years? experience in microbiology and animal physiology researchMinimum five years? experience providing scientific and management consulting to animal producersAbility to perform complex mathematical and statistical techniques such as calculus, factor analysis, and probability determination?Ability to design experiments according to recognized statistical procedures?Knowledgeable in the use of computerized applications in statistical analysisSkill in writing technical information for all levels of comprehensionAbility to maintain a high level of effective communication with appropriate people, both within and outside the company (Competency in a non-English second language preferred)Skill in making effective group presentationsAbility to work independently, set priorities, and organize work effectivelyConsiderable mental concentration is required to work effectively under time constraints and interruptionsHighly developed analytical skills, must be able to analyze a wide range of intellectual and practical problems, propose solutions, make logical decisions, carry out decisions, and conduct appropriate follow-upAbility to professionally represent the Company at industry activitiesAbility to maintain the integrity of highly confidential business informationMust be flexible in dealing with a wide variety of demands and changes in the scope of responsibilities of the positionMust be proficient in using a personal computer (word processing, statistical analysis, spreadsheets, data base management, and desktop publishing)Extensive sedentary work involving sitting at a desk for required periods of timeWalking and standing are required only occasionallyDuties require depth perception and color visionFine finger movement and hand movement is required for picking, pinching, typing, filing, grasping and feelingTalking, hearing, reading and writing are requiredTravel by automobile is required less than 10% of the time and overnight travel is required about 25% of the time, including international travelWorks with chemicals that, if handled improperly, may be a health hazardAbility to work with multiple animal species
