Job Summary: The Director of Crop Protection and Nutrien Innovation is responsible for providing leadership and direction to Nutrien Ag Solutions and Loveland Products’ research and development activities covering all seed treatment, plant nutrition, adjuvant and crop protection products. This role will be accountable for designing and developing the strategy and implementation of Nutrien Ag Solutions and Loveland Products R&D initiatives supporting overall business objectives. To accomplish this, the Director of Crop Protection and Nutrien Innovation will oversee a global staff of research associates and strategic partners.Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate a track-record of working with cross-functional teams to apply existing and/or emerging technologies to create customer-valued points of competitive differentiation and business growth. Key Tasks:Manage multiple projects meeting milestone measurements, performance specifications, production costs, development budget, and goal scheduling.Maintain effective cross-functional relationships inside and outside the organization to ensure successful planning and execution of R&D initiatives.Identify and incorporate new innovations and technologies from multiple sources, actively seeking out new strategic partnerships.Provide leadership in analyzing, diagnosing and recommending corrective action for product development challenges.Assist innovation management leadership in vetting 3rd party technologies.Coordinate field trial evaluation of technologies with University, 3rd Party, and internal research farms and greenhouses.Oversee the capture and ongoing management of research data and statistical analysis database to help identify:Technology/Product performance trendsTechnology/Product portfolio rationalizationImproved product positioningUse rate evaluationProvide Technical expertise to Nutrien, Nutrien Ag Solutions and Loveland Products on new technologies, and existing product line.Provide Technical support for “Proof of Concept” demonstration trials coordinated through Nutrien Ag Solutions Retail sales teams.Technical liaison between Nutrien Ag Solutions and major vendorsAssist with Intellectual Property strategySupport product launch, commercialization, and implementation in alliance with marketing, operations, regulatory, and sales.Qualifications:University degree in agronomy, crop physiology, biology or related field PhD with a minimum of 8 years relevant work experience. Additional work experience will be considered in lieu of doctoral degree requirements (e.g. B.S. with 15+ years, M.S with 10+ years, etc.)Technical agronomic knowledge, field research experience and data management skillsProven track record of producing effective and efficient solutions when working in a fast-paced environmentA leadership style that demonstrates confidence, assertiveness, initiative, judgment and a straightforward tenor to interpersonal relationshipsAbility to manage multiple projects with rapidly changing prioritiesAbility to achieve accelerated time tables while maintaining cooperative working relationshipsCritical, innovative and logical thinking ability to plan for present and future needsAbility to influenceExcellent verbal and written communication skillsProven ability to develop and retain business relationshipsWillingness and ability to travel extensively, domestic and International (estimated to be 40% to 50%)Knowledge and understanding of current technologies supporting data driven analysis, digital marketing, and other related information technologies.
