Director of Farm Operations
Summary: Oversee and coordinate activities of Zone Managers to implement agricultural production plans in assigned area. Regularly review financial and key performance indicators with NW Farm Manager and Zone Managers to make decisions for improved safe, sustainable, effective and efficient operations. Essential Functions:Develop, and implement policies, procedures, and practices for the operation of crop production and ensure compliance with Threemile Canyon Farm’s standards for safe, sustainable and effective operation.In conjunction with Zone Manager, inspect fields and observe growing plants and harvested crop to determine work requirements such as cultivating, spraying, thinning, weeding, irrigating, harvesting, and drying, according to time of year and condition of soil, plants, and crops.Confer with management team to develop budgets, plans and procedures for crop production and review financial statements on a regular basis. Study crop production to discover and develop the most economical and efficient methods of planting, cultivation, harvesting, irrigating, improving crop quality, controlling pests, and effects of various climatic conditions on crops.Work with management team to plan, develop, and implement policies, procedures, and practices for the waste management of a large dairy operation following agronomic standards and maintaining compliance with state agencies.Inspect work performed, observe equipment performance, ascertain condition of crop, and perform related duties to verify worker adherence to instructions and financial guidelines.Assists the HR department in interviewing, hiring, new employees. Takes an active role in training new members of the management team; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; assisting employees in career growth and development.Determines workforce needs to perform required work and scheduled activities.Assures workers are trained in safety policies and procedures, work procedures, , and safe and efficient use of machinery and tools. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or related field. Current Private Pesticide Applicator License.6+ years of experience with cultivating crops or previous general farm experience. Previous supervisory or management experience required. Some organic experience preferred.Strong knowledge of row crop cultivation and harvesting including proper irrigation techniques.Knowledge of techniques and equipment for planting, growing, and harvesting crops for consumption, including storage and handling techniques.Knowledge in the uses of pesticides and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods. Strong knowledge of regulations associated with the use of pesticides.Strong computer skills and working knowledge of farm accounting.Strong written and verbal communications skills. Solid active listening skills.Bilingual skills (English and Spanish) preferred but not required.Able to exemplify safe work techniques and train staff to keep all workers safe from harm. Knowledge of first aide preferred.Able to lead, motivate and develop staff; participate in a team environment; delegate responsibility.Apply for this job.
