Director of Supply Chain

This position will be accountable to lead sales forecasting, production planning, inventory, transportation, and warehousing to deliver maximum efficiency and meet cost standards while maintaining flexibility and high levels of customer service.They are looking for someone with experience in working with individuals and teams to develop talent. This includes a high level of business acumen- how a company operates, financially and strategically within industry. They need this individual to be adept at analyzing key business drivers & be able to build credibility based on business knowledge. This person will have an understanding of a completely integrated business system and how all aspects of the system interact and can identify the root cause of problems.Their ideal candidate is ambitious, collaborative, innovativ, and customer centric. Role and Responsibilities: * Create freight data databases to capture total logistics cost, cost by customer, cost by lane, and other information needed to analyze profitability, identify high cost locations well as be able to perform other freight analysis as required for various projects. * Interface with plant managers and sales to optimize transportation and warehouse network. * Own any 3rd party logistics or outside warehouse relationships. * Lead and develop strategy to provide appropriate options for customer delivery which balances flexibility and cost. * Develop strategy for technology use in transportation. * Develop and maintain strategy for inventory storage to balance flexibility, customer service, and working capital. * Explain variance to standards on all monthly reports. * Develop new lanes and modes to respond to customer needs. * Interface with Sales and Customer Service to ensure customer issues are understood and proactively eliminated. * Accountable for planning and inventory strategy to balance customer service levels while controlling working capital and minimizing plant losses. * Subject matter expert to support S&OP process in HQ and plants. * Interface with sales, plant managers and plant controllers to balance flexibility and customer service with cost. * Interface with Sales and Customer Service to ensure customer issues are understood and proactively eliminated. * Develop and implement tools and processes to support S&OP and maximize uptime. * Interface with Finance to provide volume forecast, working capital, and available product to support a revenue forecast. * Manage budgeted warehouse and distribution cost. * Negotiate rates with specified group of carriers. * Implement new routes/combine routes to improve upon overall cost, or restructuring current ones as needed in response to new or deleted business. * Develop special programs to improve total supply chain cost. * Provide logistics parameters to sales for customer contracts. * Negotiate warehouse and transportation agreements and services provided. * Optimize inventory levels to balance order lead time and replenishment time, factoring transport costs. * Ensure accurate forecasting or use best alternative solutions when forecast is not available. * Continually seek to optimize company spending on warehousing and logistics.Preferred Skills (not required) * Ten (10) years” experience in planning, procurement, and logistics, preferably in food or pet food manufacturing or distribution, various modes of transportation. * Previous experience in contract manufacturing or other high SKU, flexible manufacturing environment. * Previous management experience. * Strong PC skills, heavy use of spreadsheets. * Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal relations skills. * Strong analytical and organizational skills. * Literacy with integrated business systems.This company has a strong history and a bright future.
