Culture at Nutrien Ag Solutions is the core of everything we do and all employees are respectful of diverse opinions and views.Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls Engineer will have the opportunity to work with an established team of professionals on a variety of projects relating to the equipment and processes used in the bulk manufacturing, processing, handling, and storage of fertilizer and crop protection products. The Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls Engineer will manage the technical aspects of new and existing chemical processing controls and automation equipment. Travel requirements will be approximately 35% of the year to our North American facilities, and typically occurs a few days at a time, returning home each week. The position will be based in Loveland, CO.Key Tasks:Follow safety rules, guidelines, codes and standards for all projects (UL, NEC, NFPA, CE, etc.) and participate in pre-task planning, and reporting any safety issues or concerns to managementDevelop, implement and maintain company electrical, controls, and instrumentation policies and standardsProvide electrical, instrumentation, and controls expertise for process hazard analyses (PHA)Provide electrical, instrumentation, and controls expertise for detailed design reviews and sign off on management of change forms as part of process safety management (PSM)Work with Designers to produce detailed facility controls design and control equipment drawings for various material handling, manufacturing, and process operations (including computer control panels, motor control panels, power distribution panels, field bus communications designs, equipment controls including sensors, PLC’s and other controllers)Produce detailed design and as-built control narratives, alarm and interlock tables, P&ID’s, electrical single-line diagrams, and description of operations Manage electrical, instrumentation, and controls projects from cradle to grave (refine and complete the basic system concept and remain involved in procurement, manufacturing, installation, integration, start-up, training, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning)Develop the electrical, instrumentation, and controls scope of work and specifications for projects, and negotiate the scope, funding, and schedule with site leadershipReview and evaluate vendor, consultant, and contractor proposals to ensure they meet functional and technical requirements and participate in external resource selectionIntegrate the work of engineering consultants, programming contractors, and equipment suppliersOversee construction and implementation of automation and controls projects maintaining and reporting on technical quality, schedule, and budgetDevelop acceptance criteria, and conduct functional test procedures and qualification protocolsWork with process engineers, operations, and maintenance to diagnose and correct issues, support continuous improvement activities, and assist facility personnel with technical questionsOther duties as assignedQualifications:Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls, Automation, Chemical, Mechanical, etc.) with 8+ years of experience at a manufacturing or processing facility (oil, gas, chemical, food, or beverage)5+ years of relevant experience in PLC, HMI, SCADA, GUI programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Rockwell RS View, FactoryTalk ME, FactoryTalk SE, etc.)Understanding of industrial communication protocols and interfaces such as OPC, Modbus, Ethernet/IP, TCP/IPProficient in Process Safety Management (PSM)Familiar with SIL, Safety Instrumented SystemsFamiliar with hazardous area classificationsFamiliar with alarm rationalizationFamiliar with control system applications and implementation, best practices, and the sequence of design phases associated with machine designCapable of reading and performing redline markups of electrical engineering drawings/MCC designProject management capabilities and the ability to work with and communicate technical information to target audiences ranging from equipment operators to upper managementAbility to work on multiple projects at a time, travel, and problem solve both independently as well as collaboratively with a team Nutrien Ag Solutions is committed to creating an inclusive workplace.
