Independently provide and present innovative culinary forward formulas meeting customer requirements.
Lead selected development and customer programs.
Blends principles of culinary arts and food science to take new products from concept to commercialization.
Summary- This position, based in Springdale, Arkansas, is the ADM (embedded) chef – Research & Development for Tyson Foods, Inc.
The role of this position is to bring the ADM Nutrition Business Unit strategic plan, specifically around culinary energy, to life for our internal and external customers.
The position will be dedicated to developing consumer insight driven customer solutions by combining customer/segment knowledge, culinary and foodservice operations knowledge.
The chef in this role will create products using the ?80 Gold Principle? and position those products to increase sales for our customer.
The chef will work closely with the ADM Nutrition customer development, sales & marketing teams to develop selling strategies, channel targets, create and test recipes/finished products and techniques for food preparations and culinary presentations against all Tyson products creating and then selling the right product at the right opportunity.
The chef will work closely with the Tyson R&D team of food technologists & chefs supporting them as a culinary consultant & providing insight through the development process.
The position requires some level of travel to customer locations to demonstrate culinary trends, menu & product application, and recipe/finished product execution.
In addition, the position requires a strong foundation in relationship (customers, industry associations), project management & presentation skills. The chef will have an interactive process working in the customer's R&D kitchens, with other vendor partner chefs often at the customer location in Springdale, AR.
This individual must to be able to articulate ideas to various audiences in an understandable manner and must possess skills to understand how to build targeted profitability into new product creations.
This individual will maintain a professional level of food quality and sanitation standards at all times.Duties and Responsibilities
Supports customers in the development of cost effective, stable products, utilizing flavors, flavor systems and/or specialty ingredient products.
Completes relevant stability testing, costing estimates, documentation and commercialization.
Combines the artistic abilities of culinary arts with the scientific expertise of food science in concept ideation, and prototyping.May accompany account managers on sales calls as technical support; will have direct customer interaction, through email, phone calls &/or face-to-face meetings.May reduce formula costs on existing products, completing necessary stability and commercialization efforts, to optimize efficiencies and margins.May utilize internal team functions to support development of products ? sensory, marketing, analytical, etc.May participate in ideation, descriptive panels, design thinking / rapid prototyping, etc
as a means of product developmentMay provide technical representation to cross-function / strategic focus teamsEvaluates and recommends new sources of raw materials and laboratory tools.Updates and maintains related documentation pertaining to products, processes and customers (i.e. demos/tasting sheets, etc).May support production runs for select customers and/or projects; issues summary reports for each run.With the assistance of Technical Services, trouble-shoots any issues regarding formulations/manufacturing procedures, etc; makes recommendations and implements them based on trouble-shooting research.
May direct lab technicians in execution of work.13. Completes work on time and accurately.14. Understands and continues to acquire product processing and ingredient/ingredient interaction knowledge.15. Performs multiple tasks daily, with the flexibility of re-arranging daily workload to accommodate higher priority needs.16. Must remain aware of industry trends, and have the ability to relate those trends into commercializable products.17.
Follows basic GMP, ISO Procedures, GLP, Safety, Lab Notebooks and/or other electronic record keeping tools.18. Ensures screened flavors have all Application Data stored in WILD Ware, for each application.19. Performs other related duties and assignments as required. Key Technical skills and knowledge1.
BS or higher with 5-7 years? experience (Food Science or Culinary Arts or related) or High School Diploma or Associate Degree, with 7-10 years? experience.
Culinary degree preferred. 2.
Solid Mathematical Skills ? The individual is comfortable with basic calculations, ratio scaling, fraction proportioning, percentage calculations, along with graphing techniques, predictive modeling, etc.3.
Solid Food Science Skills ? The individual is comfortable with basic food science principles, including knowledge of food chemistry, lipids, carbohydrates, proteins and the principles of food processing.4.
5 years of chef experience including 2 years of supervisory, leadership experience in the foodservice industry.
Experience in at least 2 or 3 foodservice segments, i.e. foodservice national accounts, menu development, manufacturing experience a plus.Relocation assistance is available with this position.
