Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager

Position Purpose The Location Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager will lead the strategic initiatives to develop, deploy and continuously improve EHS performance across the Timberville location. This position develops work processes to ensure all locations meet the intent of the Cargill EHS Policy and is in compliance with internal and external requirements. The EHS Manager leads the EHS department to promote continual improvement, maintain EHS programs, complete required reporting obligations, complete root cause analysis and identify/communicate trends. In addition, this position will lead the coordination of EHS committees, conducts/coordinates audits and associated responses, assists in coordination of technical safety programs (i.e., PSM, plant protection) as well as waste water treatment program. The EHS Manager monitors the regulatory climate for changes which impact the complex as well as ensures training requirements are met. This position requires the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with both internal personnel and outside agencies and must demonstrate strong people and problem solving skills. Principal Accountabilities 40% – Lead Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) as a cultural element of the facility by providing visible EHS leadership on the plant floor and champion proactive EHS management systems. Drive awareness and accountability for EHS performance through all levels of the organization. Assure compliance to internal and external requirements, manage risk and leverage opportunities and best practices regarding safety and environment. Drive talent development through engagement of direct/indirect reports using performance management and succession planning tools and processes. 20% – Manage the EHS record keeping requirements and prepare and organize EHS systems for audits. Work collaboratively with plant operations to develop sustainable EHS programs and processes. Manage change to effectively implement strategies and tactics identified in reviews audits, permit processes, corporate initiatives. Plan, prepare and present annual EHS Cargill, enterprise and facility goals, objectives and results. Ensure the business is current with all regulatory requirements (i.e., EPA, VDEQ, OSHA/VOSH and DOT). Manage the EHS programs to corporate audit standards. Develop analytics to drive understanding of key issues/opportunities across the plant. Participate in management of the Worker Compensation process as needed. 20% – Coordinate and monitor behavioral based safety systems, human organization performance, industrial hygiene, ergonomic programs, risk assessments, fire safety & security, environment and incident investigations, root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent personal injury and property loss. Provide new ideas and methods to improve safety processes. Collaborate with other facilities and share success stories and opportunities. Engage stakeholders to develop a culture of continuously improving performance. 20% – Communicate and train effectively, the site leadership and stakeholders, in the development and implementation of enterprise and site specific EHS processes. Champion stakeholder engagement and active participation with facility Joint Health and Safety Committee. Work with other Cargill locations/personnel to benchmark and coordinate resources to maximize efficiency and effectiveness. Skills:
? Bachelor?s Degree in the area of Safety/Environment/Science or Related Field
? 2+ years EHS experience OR 5+ years progressive related experience in health and safety field
? Strong listening / communication (verbal and written) with the ability to connect with a variety of audiences
? Strong people management skills including the ability to engage, develop and motivate a large workforce
? Ability to lead and influence others foster teamwork, and collaborate by holding self and others accountable
? Deliver on commitments
? Demonstrated team building and conflict resolution skills.
? Ability to drive innovation and change within the workforce
? Demonstrated ability to lead a safety culture
? Strong organizational skills
? Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
? Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation
? Ability to work in manufacturing environment and provide leadership on the plant floor
? Bilingual English/Spanish
? Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, EPA and Worker's Compensation law
? Cargill Qualified EHS Auditor
? Experience in a manufacturing/production plant environment
? Animal Protein experience
