Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager

Position Purpose & SummaryCargill Cocoa and Chocolate (CCC) employs about 3500 people across the world. The organization operates globally 37 manufacturing sites varying from simple sourcing warehouses to complex manufacturing processing plants in complex environments with a variety of technologies and some with highly hazardous processes (mainly combustible dust).?This position is responsible for the development, deployment and continuous improvement of environmental, safety and health management systems at the Milwaukee location. This position will be part of the Cargill Cocoa and Chocolate- North America (CCCNA) Operations team and will help to ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory requirements and initiatives for all CCCNA?s business.??The CCCNA Milwaukee plant employee about 280 employees and 20-30 contractors.Beans are processed in a batch roasting process, there are several chocolate manufacturing lines and molding and packaging lines. The plant operators warehouse operation for raw materials and finished goods. Good are delivered by truck and rail. Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) complexity is driven by Environmental Compliance programs of a large site, Combustible dust exposure and activities around LIFEsavers and their exposures. There is a limited amount of hazardous chemicals on site.Principal Accountabilities40% Leadership:? Develop, implement and champion proactive environmental, health & safety management systems andprograms; drive awareness and accountability for environmental and safety performance and system through all levels of the organization; assure compliance with internal and external environmental, health and safety requirements, manage risk, and leverage opportunities.? Lead work on EHS efforts, which include developing collaborative relationships with regulators, customers, communities, and employees.? Senior Environment, Health & Safety Professional? will serve as primary EHS resource for their facility, but are expected to assume the lead role for the EHS discipline expertise across the North America region that they bring to the team.??25% Continuous Improvement:? Maintain awareness of developing environmental, health & safety issues; facilitate adoption of best practices through benchmarking internally and externally, developing website and using business? communication tools innovatively.? Plan, develop, track and conduct safety training sessions, inspections and audits.? Coordinate the activities of local Safety Committee development, BBS (Behavioral Based Safety), supervisor training, peer-to-peer coaching and contractor safety management, environmental sustainability and energy management.? Follow-up and assure completion of action items and gap closure.15% Communication:? Communicate effectively in the development and implementation of EHS programs. Influence business leaders to promote systems, performance and achievement of goals.? Lead the efforts of creating an EHS culture.? Communicate to all CCCNA team members in the region the goals, standards and metrics used to measure progress.10%? ?People Development:? Develop environmental, health & safety leadership and awareness skills at all levels and roles of the organization within the region.? Deploy health & safety training for hourly, supervisory, and management employees to enhance environmental, health & safety professionalism in CCCNA. Provide technical and regulatory compliance expertise and support.? Develop strength in the region by mentoring, coaching and training EHS auditors, as well as providing their specific discipline expertise within the business.?10%
Reporting and Measuring:? Produce regular summary reports and analysis on environmental, health & safety activities, performance measurement and results for the region and CCCNA as directed by the business EHS Leader. Plan prepare and present annual EHS plans, goals, objectives, reports and results for the region.? Contribute to corporate environmental initiatives, work place health and safety goal setting and coordinating development and implementation of measures and communications.? Prepare and organize environmental, health & safety files for regional, corporate and division audits.?Skills:
Required Qualifications?? Bachelor?s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene , Safety Engineering? or another related field? 10 or more years of Environmental, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and/or Safety experience in a manufacturing environment? Applied knowledge and working understanding of OSHA, regulatory compliance, experience with inspections, incident investigations, process safety, contractor safety, EHS training, hazard reviews, and job safety analysis? Experience leading and influencing and collaborating with cross-functional teams? Strong organizing, planning , analytical problem solving and decision making? Experience with process implementation of EHS policies, programs and systems? Experience with program development and implementation of new or changing systems? Experience with Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) development and training delivery? Experience working with data, database applications, and reporting (Enablon, Access, etc.);? Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, SharePoint? Experience in providing technical support to adhere to EHS policiesPreferred Qualifications? Management Experience? Experience in organizational culture change? Strong oral and written communication skills? Resilience, persistence, optimism (other key factors from Cargill leadership model)?
