Environmental Service Manager
IOWA SELECT FARMS — JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Environmental Services ManagerREPORTS TO: Director of Nutrient Management/Compliance PURPOSE OF POSITION: Coordination in the Nutrient Management Department to ensure that accurate data is collected and maintained, management plans are filed in a timely manner, assure accurate information is provided to custom applicators to apply manure nutrients. Ultimately, the Environmental Services Manager must ensure that Iowa Select Farms is compliant with all regulations regarding use, storage, and application of manure.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Adhere to ISF animal wellbeing policy at all times and partnering with Animal Well-being team when incident occurs.Adhere to ISF bio-security policy at all times and fixing violation if issue is brought to light.Adhere to ISF safety policies and procedures and wear appropriate safety equipment (PPE) for appropriate tasks and work in a safe manner.Coordinate the sampling and delivery of soils, manure or any resource requiring analysis.Professionally represent ISF as liaison with landowner, tenant, custom applicators, and laboratory in regards to crop and nutrient management.Review all application events from the site specific application records, maintain records in required format and send field reports to tenants or landowners.Maintain paper and digital MMP s in an up-to-date status at all times.Develop rate and application information and guidelines for field staff, custom applicators, landowner and/or tenant.Become familiar and then proficient with the P-index and RUSLE2Distribute imagery with acreage, buffer strips, risk areas, field borders, etc. as part of the information provided to an applicator..Maintain the DNR and field application files according to regulatory requirements.Maintain current knowledge of Iowa State Extension, crop science and nutrient uptake recommendations.Maintain up-to-date knowledge of DNR CAFO rules that affect ISF practices.Utilize GIS to manage field boundaries by site, maintain accurate application records and soil samples information.Act as a liaison with field personnel on pivot management and application events to ensure the landowner or tenant receive maximum benefit from nutrients and lagoons are lowered to assure maximum capacity during the dormant months.Become familiar and then proficient with the ISF Tools Application.Demeanor should be positive and professional at all times.Daily focus should be on welfare of animals.Attendance is critical. Be at work on scheduled days and be ready to manage activities in assigned region.Be friendly, positive, helpful, team-oriented and respectful to co-workers and management team.Flexibility in hours during health and staffing challenges and application season is required.Collaborate with other departments within the company.Bilingual: Not requiredEducation/ Experience: Bachelor s Degree in Agriculture related field or significant experience and understanding of manure application and overall management practices. Excellent computer experience including Microsoft Office Suite, Internet based applications and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) is a plus.Qualifications: Must possess a valid driver s license and a good driving record.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:This person must be a self-starter and be able to schedule tasks; thus, they must have initiative, organization, and dependability. This position requires the manager to work closely with suppliers, independent contractors, production staff and other employees, so teamwork and effective communication skills are also very important. Direct contact with animals may occur, so good stockmanship and bio-security practices must be understood and practiced at all timesPhysical requirements include the ability to lift up to 40 pounds and to climb over gates up to 48 inches in height as well as pushing, pulling, bending and kneeling. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk and stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, controls, or animals. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and talk or hear.
