Role purpose Provide timely, safe, and cost effective repairs and preventive maintenance of farm and plant equipment. Comply with all Syngenta and governmental Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements, including OSHA, EPA, and IDOA. Safely and reliably execute all maintenance operations in shop and field environments and properly document activities on work orders. Able to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair a wide variety of projects with minimal guidance and supervision. Participate in daily, weekly, and monthly safety and workflow meetings and provide feedback. Maintains work areas, shop tools and equipment, and vehicles in good order; maintains accountability and serviceability of assigned company property. Prioritizes work assignments to ensure specified goals are met on time and within cost goals. Assists in field operation activities for the research station. Activities include land preparation ahead of planting, pesticide application with commercial equipment, irrigation, and grain transportation from the field to the grain elevator. Other duties as directed by management.
Must be able to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair a wide variety of equipment with minimal guidance and supervision.
Repairs farm equipment, machinery and vehicles in field and/or shop environments.
Maintains work areas, shop tools, equipment, and other company property to ensure that the work areas/tool/equipment is in excellent working order.
Properly document work performed on work order forms and keeps the Workshop Manager informed of any/all issues.
Must be able operate multiple types and sizes of farming equipment.
Must possess or be able to acquire a certified forklift license, Illinois Commercial Pesticide Applicators License, and Class A-CDL.
Be able to purchase parts and supplies from various vendors while staying within the purchasing budget.

Knowledge, experience & capabilities Critical knowledge
Requires High School diploma or demonstrated success in mechanics, repair technologies or supervisory role.
Demonstrated mechanical and technical aptitude.
Skilled and experienced in the maintenance and repair and operation of farm, plant and facilities equipment. Able to work as a positive team member. Able to work alone and as a team member with minimal supervision. Able to read/understand technical manual, schematics, and diagrams. Possesses multitask capability with excellent customer service orientation. Able to learn new skills and concepts with strong attention to detail. Able to work safely and participate in workflow and safety discussions. Able to meet cost and timeline goals safely and efficiently. Uses hand and a wide variety of power tools, welders, torch and fabrication equipment to service, repair, fabricate, and reconfigure equipment.
Fork Lift certificated preferred.
Knowledge of office functions and processes, including MS Office, Excel, MS Databases and Spreadsheets.
Excellent analytical and deductive reasoning skills.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Ability to work positively and effectively with outside vendors/agencies and internal personnel and departments.
Working knowledge of inventory management principals.
Must be able to read and write in English.
Valid Drivers License and driving record within MVR policy guidelines. Critical experience
3+ years related work experience in maintaining farm/plant equipment and vehicles.
Gasoline, diesel and propane vehicle experience preferred.

Must have a valid drivers license to be able to travel out of state to make repairs to machinery/equipment.
Physical demands of the essential functions: Able to wear PPE; able to lift 50 lbs.; bending and stooping; frequent sitting, standing and walking over rough surfaces; reaching above shoulder level for extended periods.
Working conditions while performing essential functions: Ability to work in humid, hot, and dusty conditions for extended periods; extended hours and weekends; ability to sit at a desk using a computer for extended periods. Able to work in hot, dusty, dirty, muddy and greasy conditions as well as office areas under time pressure.
