Farm Supervisor – #01SD5
We are seeking a motivated Farm Supervisor. This position will be located in Las Cruces, New Mexico, reporting to our Testing and Operations Manager. The key role of this position entails primary responsibility for growing the onion bulb and seed crops, both in the field and the greenhouse. This includes irrigation and fertility management and pest control. The role also supports and participates in all operations related to field trials and seed production: seed preparation, field plot management, and data collection. Key Responsibilities:Efficiently direct the daily labor and farm operations to achieve program goals, including bulb harvest from contract grower fieldsLead contract employees in carrying out tasks while ensuring compliance with Bayer ESH policiesLead contract labor in seed production and conditioning operations at the direction of the Station Manager and in conjunction with the Berino Breeding TeamManage general vehicle and equipment maintenance and repairUtilize and oversee the safe operation of field equipment such as planters, tractors, forklifts, and trailers.Champion ESH policies and procedures for the safe operation of the local research facility and program, including ownership of at least two ESH programs.Effectively use computers and handheld data collection devices for the following: record keeping, reports, spreadsheets, and field data. Attend continuing education and seminars as directed by Station Manager.Embrace responsibility for all aspects of pesticide program to include: legal compliance, what/when to spray and actual applications. Farm Manager must possess a state applicator license. Schedule and manage irrigation and fertilizer program to ensure a quality crop is grown.Qualifications:Required Skills/Experience:Bachelor's Degree; Preferably a B.S. in Plant ScienceBasic computer skills Must have valid drivers licensePeak period of operations will require extended hours and days of work Demonstrated ability to balance and prioritize tasks Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbalDesired Skills /Experience:Commercial drivers license (class A CDL)Bilingual (English/Spanish)Pesticide applicators licenseCPR certified Bayer successfully completed the acquisition of Monsanto in June 2018, bringing together Monsanto???s leadership in seeds and plant traits with Bayer???s leadership in chemical and biological crop protection.
