Individual will interact closely with Production Staff, Zoetis Global Technical Support, Maintenance and Quality Operations.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: * Operate, calibrate, repair, maintain, and upgrade a wide variety of fermentation/lab equipment. This includes but is not limited to 2L to 30L Pilot fermenters, Shakers, Coulter Counter, Mass Spectrometer, Centrifuge, YSI Analyzer, Viscometer, Autoclave, Biohood, Transfer Tanks, etc. * Design and direct fermentation studies to support ongoing manufacturing operations and process improvement goals. * Evaluate/purchase new fermentation/lab equipment as needed. * Design, fabricate, and install novel fermentation equipment (Pilot/Production scale) as needed. * Perform a wide variety of Microbiological tasks, such as culture maintenance, plant contamination monitoring, strain improvement studies, contaminant kill curves, and plant inoculum, etc. * Monitor and report plant Fermentation performance, including titer, raw material quality, contamination rates, sterile procedures/design, etc. Recommend corrective actions as needed. * Independently define and solve technical problems in a complete, thorough manner. * Release of experimental data and results in a complete and timely manner. * Understand and comply with GMP/cGLP requirements when completing all work activities. * Coordinate resolution of process and or resource issues, maintain work flow and equipment operability. * Interact closely with Production Staff and act as a liaison for Fermentation process improvements. * Provide off-hours coverage on a regular basis. * Train new hires, as needed. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: * Bachelors Degree with 7+ years of experience in a technical discipline or related field, or a Master”s Degree with 5+ years of experience, preferably in an FDA regulated environment. TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS: * Ability to work independently and be a self starter * Strong analytical/problem resolution skills * Knowledge of Manufacturing facilities and equipment capabilities and constraints * Excellent attention to detail * Demonstrated direct/indirect leadership of high capability professionals and OTE colleagues * Effective written and oral communication and solid interpersonal skills * Proficient in all Microsoft Applications * Six Sigma/Lean experience, Green Belt Certification is preferred * Strong experience in cGMP environments is desired * Accomplished presentation skills and the ability to communicate across all levels of the organization * Ability to access all areas of the plant; work area is predominately an office environment, with frequent time in the manufacturing area
