Food Safety & Quality Assurance Manager
SUMMARY:This position is responsible for leading the daily management of activities and overall functions of the Food Safety & Quality Assurance Department. Provide oversight and monitoring of operational processes for compliance with Tyson policies and procedures to include, but not limited to GMP, SSOP, HACCP/HARCP, GFSI, and other regulatory and company pre-requisite programs, audits (internal, customer and third party), and supporting company or customer FSQA programs (product, label specification etc.). Plan, coordinate, implement, and monitor all food safety and quality assurance programs and activities, provide quality-related technical services, oversee special project as assigned, departmental budget, turnover, safety, and participate in the review of product quality and process control issues. This position communicates closely with production, purchasing, sales and R&D regarding acceptance, rejection and disposition of raw materials and finished products, and is accountable for monitoring and ensuring a high standard of food processing sanitation at the pre-operational and operational practices of production. This position will report product issues and audit results to corporate FSQA, plant management, corporate sales and operations; interacting with customers and their agents for product showings, plant tours and audits; visits to customer facilities, initial product runs and investigation/response to quality related customer complaints. This position is responsible for monitoring microbiological results, conducting environmental swabs and generating shelf life and environmental graphs; assisting research development activities, conducting and promoting sanitation training and FSQA related education to employees.REQUIREMENTS:Education: Bachelor's Degree in Food Science or related field.Experience: 3-5 years combined in both food processing experience and or educational experience required; preferred 2-5 years of management experience and/or management of food safety and quality programs.Computer Skills: Standard computer skills required; generating spreadsheets and develop templates for use by plant management and corporate FSQA, sales, and operations.Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills required, both written and verbal, demonstrating the proven ability to correspond with all levels – line team members to corporate management.Special Skills: Must have good problem identification and problem-solving skills. Must be a leader, self-motivated and be able to work independently yet interact with many different facets within the organization.
