Food Safety Specialist

CHS has an exciting opportunity in our Country Operations Division. We are looking for a
Food Safety Specialist to join our growing organization. You will partner with outlying locations to ensure the division?s compliance with Food Safety Regulations, Safety Regulations, Divisional Policy and Procedures. You must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, be able to influence change, and be a self-starter. You must have a high level of integrity and ethics. **Position may be based out of Inver Grove Heights, MN or Sioux Falls, SD** You will:Focus on proactive activities designed to protect human and animal health and safety, protect the communities where we are located and control potential financial losses due to compliance and safety related problems. Provide direction, guidance, and oversight to management and employees in Quality and Food Safety, ensuring compliance in all regulated areas and internal standardsDevelop and institute policies, procedures and systems to ensure food safety and quality of inbound and outbound products, processing applications and employee practices.Train and/or facilitate training for manufacturing operations with best-in-class food safety programs and in creating and enforcing safety culture. Set benchmarking criteria, determine best system for tracking and reporting to management, and ensure reports are completed and delivered in a timely manner.Coordinate with sites to conduct investigations of internal non-conformances and customer complaints with focus on root cause analysis, corrective action development, and Implementation verification. Perform regular food safety audits and site inspections, report writing, root cause analysis, and corrective action recommendations Develop, implement and maintain required training programs and materials to support the quality and food safety requirements Collaborate with operations and management teams in response third party or regulatory audits and inspections; ensure corrective actions are implemented.Evaluate safety scorecard and conduct analysis of business unit(s) to create and provide input for strategic direction of the overall food safety program.Assist CHS Food Safety Steering Committee with development of enterprise standardsParticipate in monthly safety leader update meeting and develop material for the annual safety leader conferenceProvide management with periodic reports and updates on division?s progress and safety team?s progress.Travel up to 50% of the time. Basic Qualifications: (required)Bachelor?s degree in Ag Business, Industrial Safety or other safety related degree program5 years safety experience in a cooperative or operational environment to include:Development and implementation of policies and proceduresConducting program and site audits and/or working with auditors Working knowledge of the agriculture industry Conducting root cause analysis and corrective/preventative action plans Proficient with MS Office suiteAbility to travel up to 50% of the time Preferred Qualifications: (desired)Master?s degree in a safety program Safety Certification (CSP)Knowledge of regulatory requirements to include HACCP, GMP's.Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI)Safe Quality Food (SQF) Practitioner
