Function Communications Leader, Corporate Affairs

Position Purpose Cargill?s global Corporate Affairs function is looking for a communications professional who can apply her or his strategic thinking, creativity and ability to deliver results to help advance the organization?s short and long-term business objectives.The person in this position will be the right hand to the Corporate Affairs Global Leader. As a strategist, consultant and implementer, this person will ensure streamlined activities within the Corporate Affairs job family/function, based on the priorities set forth by the Global Leader, Corporate Affairs.
This energetic and partnership-driven individual will have many opportunities to display his/her superior written and verbal communication skills, creativity and ability to create and execute a functional communications strategy and communicate complex information for diverse audiences. We are seeking a self-starter, a strategic and creative thinker and an innovator. Principal Accountabilities 75% Internal Communication Strategy Development, Planning, Execution
In partnership with the Corporate Affairs (CA) Global Leader and CA executive team, develops and executes the CA global communications strategy (includes project plan/timeline, written communications, town
halls, website updates)
Collaboratively develops and implements strategies to communicate the CA business strategy, functional goals, job family information and employee engagement efforts.
With limited oversight, aligns the global CA communication strategy with Cargill?s communications strategy and calendar.
In partnership with CA Global Leader and executive team, supports overall organizational readiness, by aligning the CA communication strategy with change and education activities. May execute various change and education activities.
May participate on global, regional and/or country issues management team to proactively mitigate issues Internal Communication & Business Partnership
Advises and counsels CA executive team members on complex communications approaches, sensitive business initiatives, incorporating Cargill?s leadership expectations into messaging.
Builds and maintains relationships with key internal stakeholders to facilitate information sharing and efficient use of resources.
Uses broad knowledge of Corporate Affairs to educate the CA function and Cargill?s businesses about the function
Frequently interacts with cross-functional partners to provide insight, and bring clarity and consistency to both internal and external messages on issues/activities across the organization.
Applies a substantial understanding of communication practices in providing a wide range of project management and communications services to deliver communications successfully across a variety of channels.
This could include: news releases, executive summaries, internet and intranet, reports, CA global leader speeches, core presentations, and other collateral materials.
May participate on and provide input to the global communications leadership team.
Regularly provides feedback, interacts and coordinates with communications colleagues, channel managers and CA executive team members to ensure awareness of issues to Cargill in other parts of the world
and consistency in messaging.
May act as team leader for complex communications projects and/or cross-functional teams.
Using a broad understanding of communication practices, collaborates with and leverages a global network of communicators and other communications channels 25% Process Execution
With limited oversight, executes communications and advocacy efforts for complex issues, initiatives and projects.
Reveals and tracks best practices and consistent processes for internal communications to be used throughout CA, and utilizes them in daily work activities.
Independently enters updates for complex processes, policies, systems and distribution lists
Partners with senior teammates in developing new communications vehicles. Advises and counsels stakeholders on what channels/vehicles should be used to support their needs.
Requiring substantial knowledge of communication practices, analyzes and reviews measures of communication effectiveness to drive continuous improvement within team.
May assist in designing the vision and format of the CA website. Skills:
Required:
Bachelor?s degree in Communications, Journalism, Liberal Arts or related field
6-10 years related experience
Support and build cross-functional relationships with key partners across the function and organization.
Ability to understand our core business and functional goals and establish processes or programs to help us move the needle forward.
Communicates project and initiative status to CA global leader, removing roadblocks when possible. Develops work plans and can pivot quickly as priorities shift.
Compile special reports, ad hoc presentations and communications for internal and external stakeholders.
Handle and maintain highly confidential and sensitive information.
Superior writing skills in various mediums
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong attention to detail
Team player: Resourceful and knows how to cultivate relationships. Ability to work with a variety of different stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
Creative and innovative thinker with strong intellectual curiosity
Project management: Ability to execute against multiple project deadlines and manage key stakeholders while moving projects forward and maintaining high work quality.
Self-starter: Track record of taking initiative, solving problems and going above and beyond to get things done, especially under tight deadlines.
Ability to listen and simplify details depending on target audience, strong interpersonal skills and a comfort interfacing with employees at all levels
Proven ability to thrive in fast-paced environment
Effective presentation skills and persuasiveness
Working knowledge of PowerPoint, Excel, Word
Ability to travel up to 10% Preferred:
Proficiency with SharePoint, Brainshark, Articulate
Previous experience communicating with a diverse, global team
