We are currently hiring for a Research Associate position in our Vegetable Discovery Genomics team based in Woodland, California. The Vegetable Discovery Genomics team provides a foundation for development of novel products in the Vegetable R&D pipeline by partnering to deliver high quality genetic and genomic reference data, ensure accessibility to these data through tools and analytics, and implement impactful new technologies. Responsibilities include: Leverage world-class genomic resources to support Monsantoâ??s global vegetable trait discovery and gene editing pipelines.Collaborate across a highly matrixed R&D organization, including Sequencing, Genome Analytics, Genetics, Breeding, Gene Editing, Data Science and Pathology.Guide development and adoption of new vegetable genome assemblies.Use bioinformatic tools and pipelines to analyze and interpret sequence data to build insights into the variation underlying commercially important traits.Employ comparative genomics approaches to enable reference genome free methods of characterizing complex variation among vegetable genomes.Apply genomic analyses to predict functional impacts of existing and novel genome variation that can benefit grower customers and consumers.Develop and modify scripted tools to broadly enable routine genomic analyses. Qualifications:Required Skills and Experience: Masterâ??s Degree in genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, breeding, evolutionary biology, molecular biology or a related field.Coding experience in R and/or Python for data manipulation and data analysis.Knowledge of sequencing platforms, and experience with using bioinformatic tools for processing sequence data, and standard sequence and variant file formats.Experience with quantitative and qualitative applications of sequence analysis, including sequence search and alignment, gene and gene feature prediction, phylogenic analysis, transcript profiling.Strong written and oral communication, and ability to collaborate effectively with international, interdisciplinary teams. Desired Skills and Experience: Masterâ??s Degree with 2+ years experience in genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, breeding, evolutionary biology, molecular biology or a related field.Experience working in cloud computing environments and accessing data via APIs.Ability to develop user applications for scripted tools and analyses (e.g. Rshiny) and implement version control for code development.Familiarity to plant breeding and plant genomics concepts.Knowledge and experience in experimental design and statistical analysesFamiliarity with concepts and methods used in comparative and functional genomics.Apply for this job.
