Global Furnace Engineering Leader
Details: Johns Manville is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Global Furnace Engineering Manager located in Littleton, CO. This position is responsible to provide strong leadership and ownership to furnace engineering efforts globally, focusing on JM furnace engineering strategic direction and industry trends, leading, mentoring, and training furnace engineers, development and implementation of all furnace engineering standards, and oversight and direction for all aspects of furnace rebuild capital project development and execution. This role will oversee inspection, scoping, design, specification, build, start-up, and documentation efforts for all global furnace and forehearth assets and will ensure quality project management, budgetary control, and documented practices and procedures to deliver furnace project technical and financial results, for both immediate and long-term results. This role shall be the owner and gatekeeper for development, standardization, and implementation of all furnace engineering design details, materials selections, procedures, policies, internal and external benchmarking, and best practices. This role shall lead and coordinate all inspection, life expectancy and extension efforts, and as-needed hot and cold repair work and operational support. The manager shall work within a cross-functional, global engineering team to achieve corporate, divisional, and departmental objectives in a collaborative environment across a broad range of industrial manufacturing facilities. The manager has cross-discipline engineering capabilities and a solid understanding of engineering design principles and manufacturing processes. This role reports directly to Vice President, Capital Projects & Engineering. Relocation assistance is available for those who qualify under our relocation policy. Responsibilities • Develop and implement global furnace engineering asset strategic direction and planning • Lead, coordinate and fill “gatekeeper” function for development, standardization, and implementation of all furnace engineering design details, materials selections, procedures, policies, internal and external benchmarking, and best practices • Maintain strong sense of ownership and accountability for all furnace and forehearth assets, their physical condition, life expectancy, and forecasted campaign life and communicate same to the business and senior leadership. • Leading, mentoring, training, and hiring of global furnace engineers • Ensure that a strong safety culture is maintained with strong safety procedures implemented, refined, and updated, driving a zero-incident project environment • Drive continuous improvement and benchmarking through all aspects of furnace engineering including, project management, cost and schedule performance, life expectancy and extension of all assets, technical details and constructability, all to deliver and improve upon asset reliability and return on net assets. • Oversee inspection, scoping, design, specification, build, start-up, and documentation efforts for all global furnace and forehearth assets • Lead and coordinate all inspection, life expectancy and extension efforts, and as-needed hot and cold repair work and operational support • Manage the NA Furnace Engineering Project Management department and the Furnace Engineering staffing, resource plan, and budget to meet safety, productivity, and financial goals • Develop, maintain, and implement furnace and forehearth rebuild planning schedule to meet the 5 year JM Strategic Planning Process. • Be the primary technical interface and external representative to the industry for JM in regard to industry standards, benchmarking (costs, schedules, new technologies, asset life), and JM’s body of knowledge. Ensure all communication and legal protocols are followed and appropriate information is disseminated internally. • Be familiar with new processes, process equipment, process control equipment and inspection, and test methods related to JM manufacturing processes. • Work with the corporate and division Process Technology groups to apply critical development of glassmaking/manufacturing technologies to JM processes • Advise and influence Technology Group on modifications to systems and procedures that will improve process control or product characteristics in JM manufacturing glassmaking efforts. • Continuously evaluate potential engineering and construction firm partnerships that may help the group improve its response time and global reach.Apply for this job.
