This role is responsible for the Leadership of a global sub-category for outsourced research (CRO) and high value research consumables & instrumentation within the Global Science Category, encompassing over $70M in spend. This person will provide close functional and strategic direction to a geographically dispersed group of regional sub-category managers and R&D stakeholders. The development, validation, and sustainable implementation of the assigned sub-category strategyis also an important function within this position. To align sourcing strategy with the complex requirements of a diverse R&D organization, with ambitions to more effectively leverage outsourced research providers.
This person will work closely with the Global and Regional Category Managers and the Procurement Business Partner organization to ensure global business requirements are clearly understood and accounted for in the sub-category strategy. To provide in-depth supply market knowledge across the CRO supply market and translate into strategic actions. Manage risk with third parties as well as achieve operational compliance across all Indirect Procurement activities relevant to the sub-category; and deliver targeted savings within the sub-category ensuring no adverse impact on quality and time requirements
AccountabilitiesProvision of strategic direction, coaching and motivation to a team of Regional Sub-Category Managers (up to 4), some of whom may be dispersed throughout Syngenta
Through spend analysis, a detailed understanding of the supply market and R&D value chain, develop and deliver the sub-category strategy in alignment with Global Category Strategy. The strategy should take into account regional nuances, R&D functional objectives, and ensure the most efficient use of the various buying channels.
Contribute to the Category Handbook which includes details of all sub-catgory strategies and supply markets
Build strong relationships with the R&D stakeholder base and Procurement Business Partner organisation, in order to ensure a comprehensive strategy is developed
Lead multifunctional/multinational sourcing teams and projects to achieve contracts, orders or agreements that are aligned with the sub-category strategies and hence deliver substantial savings and value back to the R&D function
Develop and manage relationships with key suppliers including leading significant negotiations
Partner with the Procurement Infrastructure & Development team to identify and communicate best practices and develop benchmarks that compare internal procurement performance to industry best practice
Ownership of the financial performance for the sub-category, including agreement and verification of savings forecast, budgeting, and delivery
Develop, implement and manage an SRM program appropriate to the requirements of the sub-category
Directly manage strategic and critical supplier relationships where appropriate
Manage contract performance in collaboration with the R&D functional study directors Skills:
Essential Knowledge & Experience
Capability in developing sourcing strategies for complex services and high value research consumables
Full knowledge of internal sourcing/procurement procedures and processes, and knowledge of the external trends and best practices
Leadership of complex global projects
Ability to develop performance measures for sub-categories
Deep knowledge of the relevant supply markets
Strategy development and implementation
Capability to quickly learn complex functional requirements and supply market dynamics
Development of strategic relationships with suppliers
Ability to influence peers and geographically dispersed teams
Effective communication and presentation competenciesQualifications
7 years of strong sourcing and procurement experience
Bachelor's Degree Chemistry, Biology, or any Science related disciplines preferred
Working in a multi-national, multi-cultural environment
Project team leadership geographically dispersed and cross-functional with proven results
Proven record of success in managing categories related to complex services
Strategic outsourcing of complex servicesAdditional Information
Travel- 30% and occasional international travel will be required
Incumbent must be able to lead a Virtual Team
Working hours flexible to suit time zone differences
Relocation support is available
