YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Graduate Scholar, are to:
Provide scientific, technical, and practical analytical expertise to the Formulations Group;
Develop analytical methodologies or execute existing methods for the chemical analysis of experimental or commercial formulations and active ingredients for the Environmental Science business;
Prepare protocols for validation of methods, and then validate methods to the appropriate guidelines;
Run Storage Stability studies & PhysChem studies (non-GLP & under GLP guidelines);
Document procedures and studies by writing analytical methods, SOPs and laboratory reports;
Assist in the preparation of and writing of EPA submission dossiers;
Assist in development of pesticide formulations, including formulating samples when necessary;
Ensure work is conducted to company standards, and where appropriate to Federal guidelines as dictated by EPA (GLP) or other appropriate bodies;
Ensure the safe, clean and orderly conduct of operations in the analytical chemistry laboratories in line with the Chemical Hygiene Plan and contribute the company safety programs.

Your success will be driven by your demonstration of our LIFE values. More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
PhD in Chemistry or related discipline with focus in Analytical Chemistry and minimum years relevant experience;
To be thoroughly conversant with the theory and use of all instrumentation and equipment in the formulations and analytical laboratory (primarily High Performance Liquid Chromatograph (HPLC)). The grad scholar is expected to be hands on, running his or her own studies;
Ability and desire to assist with formulation of samples;
Ability to innovate, including independent and team-based problem solving, generation on new ideas, and application of ideas to company goals;
Proficient at standard office computer software (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access), able to compile, summarize research material in electronic format. Be able to learn and utilize company data base programs for tracking and summarizing results;
Good communication skills are needed. Has developed a broad range of human relation skills to enable interaction with other scientists, yet communicate effectively at a practical level with other Bayer teams;
Ability to transfer knowledge by providing training and guidance to other chemists within the group;
The job holder is expected to be pro-active and independently provide solutions to problems encountered during projects. It is expected that practical judgment is utilized to extensively evaluate facts before requiring the assistance of the supervisor.
Working knowledge of government regulations that will impact the workings of the formulations area including: safety, EPA product chemistry guidelines, and GLP regulations.
