Position Summary:The successful candidate will report to the Vice President Process & Chemical Research and will be responsible for the leadership of ADM?s thermochemical catalysis Research & Development (R&D) activities. This includes oversight of internal and external laboratory programs, high throughput screening, and catalyst technology demonstration through the pilot phase and commercial scale-up.
Job Responsibilities: The group director will work with senior R&D, operations and commercial management to develop and direct our R&D platforms and deliverablesResponsibility for thermochemical catalysis, with the expectation to work with senior research management to expand the capabilities of the research organization and to contribute to ADM?s innovation strategySafety in laboratory catalysis development, scale-up and pilot operationsAlign goals and objectives for thermochemical catalysis R&D competency with business objectives, resource planning, prioritization and budget.Recruit, mentor and develop colleagues in field of expertiseRelationship management with internal and external partners and stakeholdersLead development of industrially feasible catalyst compositions and processes and develop intellectual property to enable new technology platforms and drive continuous improvement programs with a focus on development of hydrothermally stable catalysts, catalytic support materials and processesHigh throughput screening program development, execution and competency growthLead laboratory and pilot operations and improvement of batch and fixed bed processes
Job Requirements: Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and motive individuals and cross-functional teams within leading thermochemical catalysis organizationsMust have expertise and management history in development, intellectual property creation, scale-up and commercialization of custom catalysts and processes for the chemical industryExpertise in the development of heterogeneous, carbon-supported catalysts is a plusA successful track record demonstrating the ability to construct teams, develop milestone based projects and drive team goals in a collaborative matrix environment is required, including the ability develop the assigned competency of thermochemical catalysis by improving its capabilities to support ADM?s short and long term goals and objectivesA proven track record of building strong internal and external relationships with business groups, technology partners and customers is desiredRecognized innovator in field with proven commercial track recordAbility to lead and develop characterization programs for catalysts and support materialsProject and competency management: laboratory phase, piloting and commercialization/deployment of catalysis External program development and oversight in the area of thermochemical catalysisPh.D. degree or equivalent in Chemistry or EngineeringMinimum of 15 years of management/R&D/operations experience in industrial catalysis discovery, scale-up and commercialization Relocation assistance is available with this position.
