Group Head PAT Biologics
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Group Head, Process Analytical Technologies (PAT), Special Applications, Biomolecules are to:
Bring strong expertise and vision and collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, Manufacturing Sciences, and Development stakeholders to define PAT projects that address business needs, enhance competitiveness, advance process understanding, and drive innovation; Support capital projects and capital planning exercises with respect to process analytical technology;
Ensure that deliverables generated within the group are of high-quality and generate the intended value for the business; Manage and control the timelines and budgets for the agreed-upon deliverable;
Recruit and develop highly qualified and motivated engineers and scientists. Build PAT competency within the group; Provide opportunities for employees to develop a wide range of leadership and technical skills that may benefit various parts of the Bayer organization; Reassign employees who are not well-suited for PAT tasks;
Collaborate with the Process Analysis and Optimization group to align analytical data generation, data management, data evaluation, modelling and process control functions;
Support Pharma and Crop Science Supply Center Engineering departments to maintain compliant in-process controls and PAT data by ensuring robust operation of process analytical equipment; Establish maintenance and calibration procedures, generate methods protocols/SOPs, provide training and supplement supply center engineering resources as requested;
Develop and maintain an extensive internal network within the global PAT community in order to develop projects and access resources to plan and execute projects;
Participate in PAT technology transfer activities between different global biopharmaceutical and biologics-based Crop Science manufacturing sites;
Develop and maintain an external network within the biopharmaceutical and biologics-based Crop Science PAT communities and remain current with the latest innovations, state-of-the-art technologies and best practices;
Provide consulting services to the Pharmaceutical and Crop Science divisions with respect to PAT biologics topics as requested.
WHO YOU ARE
Your success will be driven by your demonstration of our LIFE values. More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
University degree in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Analytical Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a similar discipline; Experience in pharmaceutical industry; PhD 6+ years; MS 8+ years; BS 10+ years;
Experience with PAT and/or analytical equipment, biopharmaceutical PAT applications, and analyzer instrument calibration and maintenance procedures;
Strong knowledge of biopharmaceutical unit operations and control principles; Knowledge of advanced model-based, data-driven control methods and strategies;
Knowledge of cGMP principles and key industry regulations and guidance documents; Excellent English language oral and written communication skills;
Strong networking skills and the ability to work in interdisciplinary and international teams and communities.
A background in process development is strongly preferred;
