As the leader of the global Bioinformatics groupyou will drive improvements in the research, development and delivery ofproducts by enabling the transformation of large and complex datasets intoknowledge for Seeds and Crop Protection R&D.Essential Duties &Responsibilities: Provide innovativebioinformatics research competencies for Seeds and Crop Protection (CP) byleading the Bioinformatics Group spanning three sites on two differentcontinents.Lead theinnovation in Syngenta in the integration, analysis and interpretation ofgenomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics and other complex datasets forbreeding, trait discovery, and crop protection research.Drive and nourishscientific excellence in the Bioinformatics Group, maintain a networkwithin the scientific community in the field, and bring in new concepts ina timely fashion to support our industrial innovation leadership.Build effectivepartnerships with Seeds and CP R&D and with IT to drive innovationsfrom bioinformatics research into the Seeds and CP pipelines in alignmentwith business needs.As a member of theComputational Biology Leadership Team, contribute to the development andimplementation of computational science strategy, including theconvergence of genomics, genetics and predictive modeling capabilities.Lead thedevelopment and implementation of bioinformatics and genomics researchstrategies in support of key business priorities.Drive thedevelopment and utilization of pan-genomics capabilities to enhancebreeding and trait discovery in Seeds R&D.Partnering withIT, provide research subject matter expertise and prototyping in thedevelopment of new and innovative bioinformatics tools.Provide technicalknowledge to scout and evaluate new opportunities in bioinformatics and bethe in-house expert on competitors activities in this area.Develop and manageoperational and capital budget for the Bioinformatics Group.
