Position Summary:The Group Manager, Separation Science position will report to the Director of Process Development R&D, and will be responsible for leading a team of engineers and scientists as they initiate ideas, evaluate technologies, and develop processes that supports ADM?s objectives to Optimize the Core, Drive Operational Efficiencies and Expand Strategically. The successful candidate will be expected to work with other R&D departments, Operations and Commercial functions to build cross functional teams and ensure effective communication and efficient use of time and resources to deliver results.
As the leader of the separations group, the position is responsible for developing ADM?s technology in the area of separation and purification.
Job Responsibilities: Lead cross-functional teams in a highly matrixed environment with strong prioritization skills and agility Team leadership in pursuit of the development and transfer of robust industrially feasible separation processes including but not limited to simulated moving bed chromatography, membrane filtration, crystallization, ion exchange, and/or liquid/solids separations processes and solutions to enable new technology platforms and drive continuous improvement programsAbility to develop and coordinate technology development and technology transfer programs with internal and third party partnersCommand of process technology related to corn, oilseeds and grain processingEducate, mentor and develop group management and project leaders in field of expertiseStrong relationship management with internal and external stakeholdersAssess situations to determine the importance, urgency, risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interest of the organization Job Requirements: Strong business acumen and understanding of process technology in food, feed, ethanol, biodiesel or chemicals is advantageousWorking knowledge of separations science, including but not limited to chromatographic separation (SMB, ISMB, SSMB), ion exchange, reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration, Nano filtrations, liquid/solid separations, crystallization, as well as process cost modeling, piloting and technical transfer is requiredExperience with fermentation and catalysis is desired Demonstrated leadership with proven deployment track record is requiredProject and competency management: laboratory phase through piloting of process technology resulting in high quality technology packages for commercialization/deploymentDedicated and demonstrated process safety leadership requiredKnowledge and ability to implement principles of management, leadership, conflict resolution, negotiation, and motivationCapable of evaluating research tools and emerging technologyStrong financial and analytical skills, including expertise in the modeling and analysis of dataDemonstrated record of initiative, problem solving, and adaptabilityStrong listening, communication, and collaboration skillsEnsures compliance with ADM policiesBS or equivalent degree in engineering, chemistry or related discipline and minimum of 10 years of relevant experienceAdvanced degree in chemistry or engineering would be preferentially considered
Proven experience in R&D, operations or other related technical field
