About This Job
The role is responsible for executing outlined growing procedures and processes for Syngenta Asters and Chrysanthemums to deliver quality cuttings that meet customer requirements on a consistent basis.
-Visually inspect assigned growing area minimum one time per week. Area assignment is usually 5 to 15 acres.
-Monitor water and fertility needs of mum and aster crop for all stages of crop from un-rooted cuttings to mature stock plants.
-Monitor soil and fertilizer E.C. conditions and adjust based on established criteria and computer control systems.
-Monitor and diagnosis crop for insect and disease issues. Respond in compliance with IPM and WPS practices.
-Implement weekly plant growth regulator crop model, insect and disease control strategies and weed control.
-Maintain proper pinch schedules to insure on time cutting harvest.
-Responsible for physical integrity of growing equipment and structures and have in proper working order.
-Supervise and instruct assigned hourly employee (usually 1-8 people) to daily tasks.
-Conduct field trials to improve on current practices.
-Frost Water and Weekend work will be required.
Essential Knowledge & Experience
-Ability to maintain and execute established procedures-Problem solving abilities- especially related to disease expression symptoms on mums and asters-Being aware of current state of horticulture industry-Work closely with operations team in weekly harvest of cuttings-Team player-Experience looking for ways and methods to continually improve current practices-Soil fumigation techniques-Understanding of vapor deficient concept and its use in mist and irrigation control
Preferred Knowledge & Experience-Bilingual-Fluent in English and Spanish is desirable -Cutting propagation experience is desirable
Qualifications-BS Degree Horticulture/Agriculture/Biology related disciplines-5 years of horticulture growing experience is required-A Florida pesticide license or the ability to obtain this license within 6 months of hire-An applicator license to use chemicals or the ability to obtain this license within 3 months of hire-Familiarity with IPM Integrated Pest Management and Horticulture environmental control systems-Working knowledge of WPS Worker Protection Standard requirements and applications-Familiarity with insecticides and fungicides used in greenhouses -Experience with growing crops in a greenhouse green skills-Must be available to work nights and weekends-Basic computer skills-Knowledge of MS Office Suite

10% – International and Domestic-Flexible work hours-night and weekend work is required for this role
