This is a highly responsible position working in the overall care and health of a dairy herd. Responsibilities include the care, diagnosis, treatment and processing of cows, including newly-calved (fresh) cows, and sick (hospital) cows. This job is to be performed efficiently to allow for the smooth execution of protocols and processes. While allowing for the production of high quality milk and also promoting animal well-being and comfort. This position requires extensive animal health knowledge. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily while working both independently and with other employees. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skills, and/or ability required.?Essential Duties*Ability to learn, understand, and abide by all company policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.*Utilize specialized animal health care knowledge and training in the recognition, diagnosis and treatment of sick and/or special needs cows.*Ability to assess individual cows and situations using good judgment in decision-making.?*Responsible for the medical treatment of sick cows in a manner consistent with company protocols and/or special veterinarian orders.?*Responsible for knowing and understanding the information contained in company Herd Health Protocol, including and especially the set procedures and guidelines for recognizing the symptoms of and treatment of sick cows as well as training personnel on the development of animal welfare awareness.?*Ability to administer vaccinations and injections either subcutaneously, intramuscularly or intravenously as dictated in the company Protocol.?*Conduct routine checks of all Hospital cows in a timely manner to ensure they are receiving adequate care.
