We are seeking a motivated Implementation Project Engineer. This position will be in St. Louis, MO (Chesterfield) and reporting to Engineering Implementation Lead, Our Global Breeding Automation Engineering Team is a group of technologists passionate about creating systems to fuel the farm of the future. We are reimagining and rebuilding our entire suite of field and lab technologies for the world of digital ag — a world that is geospatial, automated, and cognitive. We are looking for a Project Engineer to lead projects that grow our new designs from prototypes and POC???s to small-scale production ??? ready for sustainable, long-term deployment within our R&D organization. You???ll tackle a variety of challenges with our small, innovative team who are devoted to the build, test, deployment, support, sustainment, and continuous improvement of systems that rapidly advance research and delight our partners. You love the intricacies of smart mechanical design, but don???t want to sit at a CAD station most days. You???re comfortable troubleshooting I/O, actuators, and software logic, but you aren???t enthused by coding or designing panels every day. You enjoy working with a team to get things done and know everyone has something valuable to ensure the success of the project. You see the big picture and sort through the details (whether bolt size, allowable voltage, test results, or vendor purchase orders) to find the ones that carry the most risk and focus on those to drive to successful project completion. You dive in headfirst and own the projects you work on, no matter what your role is on paper. This sense of ownership, curiosity, teamwork, comfort in both the details and larger strategy, and basic facility with many aspects of automation (mechanical, electrical, software) are what we need from you. Key Responsibilities:Coordinating build, deployment, test, and ongoing sustainment of a set of custom-designed automated platforms with highly seasonal annual scheduling. Representing the Implementation team on cross-functional product development teams – assessing the magnitude of the fabrication and assembly effort needed for the project, planning and scheduling resources accordingly, and reporting build status and issues back to the team. Leading Design for Manufacturability efforts, subassembly testing, first article testing, and site acceptance testing. Selecting and managing external vendors on outsourced assembly projects. Working with the design teams, support teams, vendors, and technicians to ensure that the design documentation packages are production-ready. Train, direct, and work along-side technicians in build, test, retrofit, prototype, support, maintenance, and repair activities. Development of detailed project schedule and budget. Qualifications:Required Skills/Experience:Minimum of Bachelor???s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or strongly related field. Minimum 2 years experience required, 5+ years experience preferred in development and production (strongly hands-on) of automated equipment for laboratory, production, and/or agricultural field environments. Strong computer skills related to data capture, organization and analysis Strong foresight, planning, prioritization and organizational skills Passion for and experience with quickly identifying and troubleshooting problems in automation and control systems (mechanical, electrical, and software). Demonstrated effective written and oral communication ??? able to translate between many types of engineers, technical team members, support staff, vendors, scientists, finance/operations staff, and customer-partners. Experience contributing to and leading multiple concurrent projects with shifting priorities Experience in defining a project schedule (especially assembly and integration) based on project complexity and successfully leading a team to accomplish it. Ability to motivate and influence others to achieve results with customer/partner focus. Innovative problem solving skills. Desired Skills/Experience:Experience in qualifying and managing external production partners in the fabrication of automated equipment. Experience in reviewing drawings for production readiness and manufacturability including adherence to proper GD&T principles. Experience in developing technical service documentation and technical training. Experience with installation and programming of automation and control systems Demonstrated leadership skills and experience working in a highly matrixed environment Knowledge/Experience with Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Reliability-Centered Maintenance, and Root Cause Failure Analysis, Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical CAD drawings.
