Position Summary: The Instrumentation and Controls Engineer will provide technical support related to process instrumentation and its integration into control systems to various groups within the Origination business unit, including engineering, maintenance, and operations. Specific responsibilities include the application of instrumentation and controls expertise to new and existing process operations with tasks ranging from standards development, mentorship of plant technicians, adoption of new technology, and the implementation of instrumentation performance sustainability programs throughout the BU. The primary purpose of the position is to ensure that process instrumentation systems are designed and maintained at a level adequate for optimal control system performance. Job Duties: Develop and apply instrumentation related standards and standard methodologies.Act as a resource for plant technicians/supervisors through coaching and mentoring.Support instrumentation efforts on capital projects including scope definition, sizing and selection, cost evaluations, and construction start up/support.Support optimization efforts through the assessment of existing instrumentation and the application of new technology required to optimize control of various processes. Establish instrumentation criticality based on plant function and work with M&R team to demonstrate available technology for assisting with maintenance strategies Develop a standardized calibration management program that satisfies regulatory calibration requirements as well as sustains required performance levels of plant instrumentation. Evaluate new instrumentation technology and assess the value it can bring to the facility while supporting the various plant groups with the adoption of this technology. Assess existing plant instrumentation installations and make recommendations for improvement or updates based on application and available technology.Communicate instrumentation standards, standard methodologies, and opportunities to peers across the division to drive consistent adoption of technology and optimization of process instrumentation systems.Collaborate with ADMs Global Automation and Controls Team, to ensure alignment, standard methodology and to drive standardization
Job Requirements and Abilities:
Dedication to working safely and to the awareness for the safety of coworkers.BS Engineering or equivalent experience.Minimum 2 years of significant plant manufacturing experience with process instrumentation and control systems.Experience with a wide variety of process instrumentation including flow, pressure, level, temperature, hazard monitoring, and analytical.Experience sizing and specifying control valves.Experience with instrumentation management systems.Working knowledge of common instrumentation related drawings and documentation, such as P&IDs and electrical schematics.Strong organization skills, as well as excellent communication, social, and leadership skills. Results motivated by working independently, in teams, and with others at all levels of the plant organization.Willingness and ability to work in plant areas (i.e. walk long distances, stand, climb stairs and ladders, lift up to 50 lbs. and move through close spaces Ability to respond quickly to changing requirements and be capable of working in hot and cold temperatures.Willingness to think creatively and use new technologies in ways that challenge the norm.
