YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, (Intern), are to:
Develop and optimize bioassay methodology to test biological and chemical materials for insecticidal properties;
Work with management and Lepidoptera Pest Screening Team to improve protocols, evaluate new techniques and develop strategies for their implementation;
Conduct bacterial and protein screening for insecticidal properties using artificial diets in the laboratory;
Evaluating efficacy of crop traits against target pests of interest under laboratory, greenhouse and field conditions, as needed;
Prepare adequate reports and communicate with lab manager, group leader and/or project leader on a regular basis;
Prepare and deliver research update presentation to colleagues, the greater scientific community, and members of the general public;
Train and supervise others in specific activities;
Complement, when necessary, team members in research planning and implementation;
Manage confidentiality of competitive know-how;
Archive information properly (including notebook keeping, shared spreadsheets, and any other relevant database);
Follow all QHSE, Biosafety, and USDA/APHIS/PPQ requirements.
WHO YOU ARE
Your success will be driven by your demonstration of our LIFE values. More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
PhD with Entomology Degree(or closely related field) or MS degree, preferably in Entomology or closely related field, and 2+ years of relevant experience in academic or industrial laboratory;
Have working knowledge of GMO crop trait mode of action and how they are utilized to manage crop pests;
Have research & development training, knowledge and experience to coordinate laboratory and greenhouse bioassay development, troubleshooting and optimization as needed to attain business goals;
Have the ability to scout, test and facilitate implementation of automation and additional modern technologies to improve efficiency of pest screening pipeline
Excellent interpersonal, management and organizational skills;
Be familiar and experienced with the major insect pests of key agricultural crops (i.e.,corn, soybean, cotton, wheat);
Strong knowledge of biochemistry, molecular biology and microbiology;
Experienced with insect biology and protein based bioassays;
Be willing and able to work with live insects, nematodes and bacteria;
Proficient computer skills (Word, Excel and PowerPoint);
Excellent organizational and record keeping skills;
High attention to detail;
Have strong English verbal and written communication skills;
Ability towork independently with minimum supervision and as an exemplary member of a highly collaborative multidisciplinary/multicultural research team;
Be able and motivated to learn new techniques;
Have creative and flexible thinking;
Be able to design, implement and analyze experiments;
Be able to summarize, present and write data reports.
