The position is a part-time, year-long internship during the school year (20-25 hours per week).
Hours are flexible between 8am and 5pm. Summary:The Intern will assist the Biotech Regulatory Compliance Team in the collection and management of high quality regulatory compliance and stewardship data. In this role, they will assist with data collection needed to fulfill USDA Biotechnology Quality Management System (BQMS) and EPA requirements for regulated field trials. This individual will also assist in implementing systems for Stewardship including Identity Preservation during commercial production of Innate Technology potatoes. The Intern will be responsible for managing team efforts for compliance documentation related to transport, storage, planting, harvest and post-harvest management of biotech potato crops. Cross-functional team collaboration, leadership, concise written and oral communication, organization and attention to detail are required. This role includes an opportunity for independent study and presentation of results. This position is a full-time 6 month internship, starting in May 2016 and ending in November 2016. RESPONSIBILITIESResponsibilities:Job functions include but are not limited to: Assist potato growers and SPS research staff with documentation and monitoring required to fulfill USDA Biotechnology Quality Management System (BQMS) requirements Assist with planting, harvest, crop sampling and field observations Data collection and entry Special projects as assigned Ensure identity preservation of potato crops and seed Assure compliance with all post-trial regulatory or stewardship procedures including reporting, volunteer monitoring, and proper disposal of plant material
REQUIREMENTSEducation:Nonessential:* High school diploma or general education degree (GED)Other information:REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor's degree (in-progress or completed) in: Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, Biology, Molecular Biology, Engineering, Food Science, or other relevant majors. Preference for experience in crop production, farming, horticulture or similar. Knowledge of potato cultivation, food processing, food safety, plant biology, laboratory sciences or biotechnology is also preferred. Excellent verbal, written communications and interpersonal skills are essential. The individual must be available to travel domestically approximately 50-75%. Valid driver's license.
